Mrs. Linda Lou Fortenberry: Obituary


Mrs. Linda Lou Fortenberry age 66 of Blairsville passed away peacefully on Thursday November 30, 2017 in the North East GA Medical Center following an extended illness.

Mrs. Fortenberry was born on August 25, 1951 in Young Harris, GA., the daughter of the late Marion Dyer and the late Winnie Mae Manley Dyer. She was a lifelong resident of Union County and had been employed at Vogel State Park for many years. Linda was a loving and caring wife, mother, sister and grandmother. She loved music, especially gospel music and loved going to the singings at Shady Grove. She enjoyed reading and loved to cook. She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Chris Fortenberry, a grandson, Jake Brock, two brothers, Eugene and Bluford and two sisters, Louise and Sarah. Linda was a member of Shady Grove Methodist Church.

Surviving Linda are her loving husband and best friend of forty nine years, Claxton Fortenberry of Blairsville, two sons and daughters in law, David and Julie Fortenberry of Blairsville, James and Tonya Fortenberry of Blairsville, four sisters and two brothers in law, Ethlene Jones of Milledgeville, Gayle Hedden, Brenda and Bobby Murphy, Janice and Bobby Lance all of Blairsville, two brothers, Lloyd Shelton and Troy Dyer both of Blairsville, six grandchildren, Jacob and Tyler Fortenberry, Jasmine and Jordyn Miller, Jenny Brock, T.J. and Tiffnay Brock, three great grandchildren, J.W., River and Landen Brock, several nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends also survive.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday December 9, 2017 at 2:00 pm from the Shady Grove Methodist Church with Rev. Winfred Pitts officiating. Special music will be presented by Winfred and Patsy Pitts and Dayton Dyer. Interment will follow in the Shady Grove Cemetery where she will rest next to her son Chris. In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that donations may be made to the Shady Grove Methodist Church in Linda’s memory. The family will meet with friends following the service.
