Mr. Richard (Dick) Lowe Stone: Obituary


Richard (Dick) Lowe Stone, age 85, passed on December 1, 2017.

He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years Nita Stone; his children Marion (Jeff) LaCross, Mary Frances (John) Harrill, Richard Stone II, and Robert (Tracy) Stone; eight grandchildren, Matthew and Joseph LaCross, Roland, Kerry and Justin Stone, Rachel Contrata, Baxter Harrill and Julia Radford, and two great granddaughters, Kaylee and Audrey LaCross; 2 nieces and 2 nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents Harry McKinley Stone and Greta Redding Stone, and his brother, Harry Clinton Stone.

Dick was born on December 14, 1931 in St. Augustine FL. He was raised on a dairy farm. Worked for Mosquito Control in St Johns, Manatee, and Sarasota Counties FL for over 14 years. Dick then opened a light construction business until 1996 when he “retired” and moved to Blairsville GA. While in FL, Dick was very active in youth and prayer ministries along with always being available for people working on their spiritual growth. After moving to Blairsville, he continued to help others with both their everyday and spiritual needs. He was a member of St Francis of Assisi Catholic Church where he was an Eucharistic minister, active within the prayer group and Discipleship of Jesus and Mary.Dick was a member and instructor of the OASIS (Outstanding Adults Sharing In Service) educational program. He was well known for assisting Eva Breedlove in teaching Chair Caning.All who meet Dick felt welcomed and loved. He was a true friend to everyone and never met a stranger. His strong sense of humor spread joy and happiness wherever he went. Dick truly enjoyed teaching others. He was very proud of and felt blessed by all his children and grandchildren. In the morning, you could find him saying his devotions while soaking in the beauty of the mountains.

Funeral Services will be held December 16, 2017 at St Frances Catholic Church at 11AM with Father Juan Areiza officiating and music by Ron Gaucher. Interment will follow in St. Clare’s Cemetery. The family will meet with friends at the church following the services.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to either St Francis Catholic Church World Youth Day 2019 Fund or the Society of St Vincent de Paul.
