Mr. Edward Malcolm Schorr, age 85 of Wilson Drive, Blairsville, formerly of Miami, FL., passed away peacefully at his home on Monday February 24, 2020 following an extended illness. Mr. Schorr was born on May 18, 1934 in Pittsburgh, PA., son of the late Edward Anton Schorr & late Estella Blanche Reed. Edward raced stock cars when he was younger; which he thoroughly enjoyed. In his past-time; he fished, did machine-work, and wood-work. Edward was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include his loving wife & best-friend of 67 years, Claire Schorr of Blairsville, son & daughter-in-law, Ed & Lupe Schorr of Hoschton, GA., two daughters & sons-in-law, Lynne & Gary Lieffers of Tallahassee, FL., Barby & Bob Crandall of Birmingham, AL., son & daughter-in-law Kenny & Sonia Schorr of Blairsville, brother& sister-in-law, Tom & Ida Mae Schorr of Pittsburgh, PA., brother, Don Schorr of Ft. Myers, FL., eight grandchildren; Joy, Gloria, Chad, Andrew, Luis, Angelina, Gianna, Chelsea, great-grandchildren; Saige, Conlin, and Paisley.

Earl “Skip” Lynn Peters: Obituary

Earl “Skip” Lynn Peters from Young Harris, GA went Home suddenly to be with the Lord on February 21, 2020 while working in Hiawassee, GA. Skip was born on May 13, 1951 in Aberdeen, MD and was 68 years old.
Skip served in the U.S. Army Special Operations Command, 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment Delta Force from 1969-1992. Among many awards bestowed upon Skip during his career, for his valor, he received the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th highest awards of a soldier: Distinguished Service Cross in 1989, Distinguished Service Medal in 1982, Silver Star in 1970. In addition, Skip received two Purple Heart medals, one in 1970 and 1990 for wounds received in action. He received The Humanitarian Service Medal in 1980, two Soldier’s Medals in 1980 and one Soldier’s Medal in 1982.

In addition to his military career, Skip was a professional home builder and owned his own construction company for 25 years building conventional and log homes and home improvement projects in Maryland, Delaware, Virginia and West Virginia until he retired in 2008. He then relocated from North East, MD to Orlando Florida with his wife to care for his two widowed stepsisters. In 2011, Skip and his wife found their final home together in Young Harris, GA. The couple worked together in partnership with the Shaklee Corporation achieving many awards since 1980. Skip recently began working as a Project Manager for T.L. Thompson Construction, Inc. in Hiawassee, GA, returning to his love for the construction industry.

Skip grew up on Alliance St. in Havre de Grace, MD where he learned to love the outdoors, enjoying hunting, fishing and boating most of his life. Skip loved God and His Word, his country, his family and friends and humbly served others throughout his life. He valued his place in God’s Army and considered himself a warrior for God.
Skip was an active member of Warriors Veteran Outreach in Murphy, NC. He was a member of the World Harvest Church North in Blairsville, GA and the North Mount Zion Church of God in Hiawassee, GA. He was a former member of Life Community Church in Newark, DE. He served in Towns County Food Bank and the Food Bank at North Mount Zion Church of God.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Georgia Lee (Deamer) Peters and by three sons and a daughter: Michael Lee Peters (Julie), Jeffrey Lynn Peters (Rachel), Nathan Lee Peters (Heather), and Christine Lynn Peters Glenn (David). He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and by his stepbrother, Steve Foust from Havre de Grace, MD. He is preceded in death by his father, Earl L. Peters and his mother, Irene Scroggins Peters, his step siblings Herbert Pates, Jeannette Peters (Charles) Miller, Ramona Peters (John) Ondeck and Ladonna Peters (Joseph) Baldwin.

Celebration services will be held on Saturday, February 29, 2020 at Sharp Memorial UMC on Young Harris campus, 1114 Main St. Young Harris, GA at 11:00 a.m.

The Cochran Funeral Home of Hiawassee announces Funeral Services for Carlton Harold Bailey, age 91 of Jackson, Michigan (formerly Hiawassee, Georgia) who passed away on Saturday, February 22, 2020.

Funeral Services will be held at 3 p.m. on Monday, March 2, 2020 at McConnell Memorial Baptist Church with Pastor Steve Taylor and Rev. Danny Byers officiating. The family will receive friends from 10 am until 2:30 pm on Monday at Cochran Funeral Home of Hiawassee. Military Honors will be presented by the North Georgia Honor Guard. Graveside Services and Interment will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 3, 2020 at Green Meadow Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Conyers, Georgia. Firefighter Honors will be presented by DeKalb County Fire Department.

Mr. Kenneth (Kenny) Edward White age 48 of Oak Tree Village Park Blairsville passed away peacefully on Monday February 10, 2020 at his home following a brief illness. Mr. White was born on Sept. 8, 1971 in Union County, the son of Darlene Davis White and Garland Ray White. He was a native and lifelong resident of Union County. One of Kenny’s passions in life was fishing. He could spend hours by the creek side or the lake fishing even if not catching anything. He was a loving son, brother and uncle. Kenny attended Salem #2 Baptist Church.

Surviving Kenny are his mother, Darlene Day of McCaysville, GA., one sister Misty Day of McCaysville, one brother and sister in law, Danny Alicia Hedden of Dawsonville, one nieces, Amber Leigh  Hedden of Dawsonville, several aunts, uncles, cousins, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday February 15, 2020 at 11:00 am from the Mountain View Chapel with Rev. Randy Hooper officiating. Special music will be presented by The Caylor Family. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Marion McFarland, Frank Bowles, A.C. Caylor, Doug Heaton, Chris Johnson, Brett Curtis and Mike Chastain. Mrs. Linda Marie Rivkin, age 65 of Grady Way, Young Harris, formerly of Blairsville, passed away peacefully on Monday February 10, 2020 at her home following an extended illness. Linda was born on February 13, 1954 in Amityville, NY., the daughter of the late Gerard Duffee & late Gladys Downs. Linda worked as an LPN for a home-health agency for many years. She also spent a lot of time with her beloved grandson, Chase. Linda had a love for horses and crafting. She is preceded in death by her first husband; Irwin Rivkin in 1981, two sons; Eric & Timothy Rivkin, and a grandson; Dillon. Linda was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include special friend; Dennis Plott of Young Harris, three daughters; Sam Rivkin of Blairsville, Jamie & Rusty Blalock of Blairsville, Mary E. Plott of Young Harris, a sister; Annie Powell of OK., six grandchildren; Lauren, Ally, Chase, Madison, Jake, Will, and one great grandchild; Madison.

Mrs. Beverly Jean Schuette, age 80, of Bertson Circle, Blairsville, GA passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, February 11, 2020 following an extended illness. Mrs. Schuette was born on Sept. 14, 1939 in Titcarin, PA, the daughter of the late Eli Stone and the late Laura Cimrick Stone. She had lived here for the past 17 years moving here from West Palm Beach, FL. Mrs. Shuette was a devout Christian and lived to serve the Lord. She was a loving mother and grandmother and cherished her grandchildren. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ.

Survivors include her daughter, Laurie Brown of Blairsville, GA; her stepmother, Arthea Stone of PA., siblings, Glen Stone, Cindy Stone, Candy Stone, Margaret Stone and Curtis Stone; two grandsons, Kohl Brown and Kyle Brown, three great grandchildren, Addison, Maya and Andrew.

Robert Henry Johnson: Obituary

    Mr. Robert Henry Johnson, age 82, of Beale Ct. Drive, Blairsville passed away peacefully on Thursday February 13, 2020 at his home surround by his loving family following an extended illness. Mr. Johnson was born on July 10, 1937 in Plainfield, NJ., the son of the late George Crawford Johnson and the Agnes Christina Hansen Johnson. He was a veteran of the US Army. Robert took wooden bowl turning classes at the John Campbell Folk School and this became one of his most prized hobbies. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and also had a great love for his church family. He was preceded in death by a brother, Jim Johnson. Robert was a member of Mtn. Presbyterian Church.

Surviving Mr. Johnson are his loving wife and best friend of twenty-eight years, Sue Royal of Blairsville, one daughter, Kim Wagenaar and one son, Christopher Johnson both of Asheville, NC., five grandchildren, Brian, Ann and David Wagenaar of Chicago, Zoe and Nils Johnson of Zurich, Switzerland, a host of his church family, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Monday February 17, 2020 at 11:00 am from the Mtn. Presbyterian Church with Rev. Travis Adams officiating.  Special music will be presented by Ray Bennett. Robert will lie in state at the church from 10:30-11:00 am. In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that donations may be made to the Mtn. Presbyterian Church in Robert’s memory. Interment will follow on Tuesday at 10:00 am from the GA National Cemetery in Canton with Military Honors by the US Army. The family will meet with friends following the services.

Jeanette Payne: Obituary

Mrs. Jeanette Payne age 87 of Mt. Pleasant Church Rd. Blairsville passed away peacefully on Thursday February 13, 2020 in the Union General Hospital with her loving family by her side following an extended illness. Mrs. Payne was born on July 19, 1932 in Monroe, GA., the daughter of the late Claude Sorrells and the late Maggie Allen Sorrells. Jeanette and her husband Floyd loved playing and singing Bluegrass Gospel music at nursing homes and other events. She was always very strong in her faith and loved her Lord. She was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Payne in 2019. Jeanette was a member of the House of Prayer Church.

Surviving Mrs. Payne are two sons and daughters in law, Doug and Laura Payne of Blairsville, Darryl and Eileen Payne of Jasper, six grandchildren, Joshua and Annie Payne, Jessica and Jared Joiner, Kayla and Drew Harris, Christian Payne, Keegan Payne, Kayden Payne, Christine Gauthier and Payne Robertson, one great grandchild, Oakland Payne, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday February 16, 2020 at 2:00 pm from the Mountain View Chapel with Rev. Jerry Helton officiating. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Jared Joiner, Keegan, Christian, Kayden and Larry Payne and Kenneth Grizzle. Interment will follow in the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Cemetery where she will rest next to her beloved husband Floyd. Mrs. Dolores (Dee) Mondoro Langlois Thigpen age 84 of Twin Gates Lane Blairsville passed away peacefully on Thursday February 13, 2020 in the N.E. GA. Medical Center following an extended illness. Mrs. Thigpen was born on Nov. 23, 1935 in Plainfield, NJ., the daughter of the late Michael Mondoro and the late Mary Cerrato Mondoro. Dolores always had a passion for helping children. She was a great cook and a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Dolores was a member of the First Baptist Church in Blairsville.

Mr. John Earl Gibson, age 92, of Blairsville, GA, passed away peacefully on Thursday February 13, 2020 at his home with his loving family by his side following an extended illness. Mr. Gibson was born on Dec. 9, 1927 in Blairsville, GA., the son of the late Paul and Nellie Elvira Brown Gibson. He loved Racing, Fishing, Reading, Walking, Yard Work, and was an avid Golfer. Mr. Gibson was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was preceded in death by a son, Joey Leon Buck, and sister, Ethel Gibson. Mr. Gibson was a WWII U.S. Army Veteran and he attended New Hope Fellowship Baptist Church.

Mr. Robert Glenn “Toy” Rusk, age 58 of Serenity Drive, Blairsville passed away peacefully on Friday, February 14, 2020 at his home following an extended illness. Mr. Rusk was born on June 13, 1961 in Miami, FL., son of the late Jack Rusk & late Annette Rusk. Toy loved the Florida Gators and Sweet Tea. He was a loving father, brother and grandfather who especially adored his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and wife; Deborah Ann Neumuller in August 2007. Toy was of the Baptist faith.

Mr. Richard Brown Caldwell age 76, of Family Church Rd. Murphy, NC passed away peacefully on Friday February 14, 2020 at his home with his loving family by his side following an extended illness. Richard was born on March 5, 1943 in Murphy, NC, the son of the late Brown and Rebecca Mauney Caldwell.  He loved hunting, fishing and playing horse shoes. He  was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church in Hayesville, NC.

Survivors include his wife Judy Ann Caldwell of the home; daughter, Kim and Vaughn Gibson of Murphy and son, Dickie and Jennifer Caldwell of Murphy; grandchildren, Jaderian Ackeman, Chad Caldwell, Brad Caldwell, Tyler Caldwell and Wyndsor Caldwell.

Mr. Mark Raymond Ware age 60 of Mauney Circle Blairsville formerly of Loudon, TN. passed away peacefully at his home on Monday February 17, 2020 following an extended illness. Mr. Ware was born on April 14, 1959 in Norwalk, OH., the son of Larry Ware and the late Elissa Bliss Ware. Mark loved riding motorcycles, playing golf and living on his farm in Blairsville. He was a loving and caring husband, son and brother. Mark was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving Mark are his loving wife and best friend of thirty eight years, Dawn Nicholson Ware of Blairsville, his father and stepmother, Larry and Cora Ware of Ft. Myers, FL., two brothers and sisters in law, Mike and Tammy Ware of Cape Coral, FL., Mitch and Jeannie Ware of Birmingham, AL., his father in law and mother in law, Fred and Bobbie Nicholson of Blairsville, several nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Mr. Thomas Newton “Newt” Miller age 77 of Weaver Road, Blairsville passed away peacefully on Thursday February 20, 2020 at his home following an extended illness. Newt was born on July 10, 1942 in Atlanta, GA., son of the late Thomas Coke Miller & late Georgia Erwin. Newt proudly served as manager of Gold kist in Blairsville for over 35 years and was a life-long resident of Union County. Most of his free time was spent either farming, gardening, and cooking. He dearly enjoyed spending time at the deer camp and the Union County Farmer’s Market. His main joy in life were his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by a son; Thomas “David” Miller on January 19, 2020. Newt was a member of Coosa United Methodist Church.

Interment will follow in the Old Blairsville Cemetery. She is survived by her wonderful husband and partner of 69 1/2 years Albert Muhlback also of Blairsville GA, daughter Linda Henson of Blairsville GA, daughter Alice Muhlback of Ithaca NY, daughter Sandra Smith of Charlotte NC, grandchildren Tara Age, Annalyn Cuccia, Jon Cuccia, Royce Cuccia, Kellen Henson, Sequoyah Muhlback and Daquawn Muhlback.
Joan the oldest sibling of eight is survived by sister, Marilyn Morse of NJ, sister Geraldine Roth of FL, Roger Wood of FL and Randy Wood of FL.

This beautiful sweet happy vibrant fun loving woman was a genuine soul serving giver of love and kindness without end without take. She was an extraordinary wife mother sister Nini friend anyone could have ever asked for and will be missed beyond words can fathom.

❤ She referred to herself as a “tuff ole bird” and she lived up to that legacy all of her life having to fight numerous ailments but in the end having to succumb to the ferocious cruel beast called Alzheimer’s Disease. She will forever and always shine bright in our hearts body and soul as we find comfort knowing she will eternally be a huge part of us, a grateful glow, a love without end. But only she would put it best, saying “bye bye for now”. RIP Joan Beverly Muhlback❤ May there be glory forever over that rainbow Amen.

Cochran Funeral Home and Crematory of Blairsville announces the death and funeral services for Mrs. Juanita Marie Prentice, age 89, who passed away on Friday, February 21st, 2020 at her residence in Blairsville.

Mrs. Prentice was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, a daughter of the late Carl White and the late Jennie Crosley White. She had been living in Blairsville since 1992, moving here from Port St. Lucie, Florida. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Union County, and the Union General Hospital Auxiliary. She was lovingly known as “Grams” by her family. Her husband, Robert E. Prentice, passed away in 1999.

She is survived by her family members: daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Robert Roxbury; son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Sally Prentice; son and daughter-in-law, James and Leonda Prentice; and son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Leora Prentice; Ten grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services for Mrs. Prentice have been scheduled for Friday, February 28th, 2020, to be held at 2:00 p.m., in the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home in Blairsville. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers: Robby Roxbury, Drew Prentice, Nathaniel Prentice, Andrew Jones, Harold Maybe, and William Prentice. Burial will be in Union Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 27th, between the hours of 6 until 9 p.m.

Flowers are being accepted; however, if you wish to make memorial contributions, they can be directed to The Alzheimer’s Foundation.
