David Charles Martens of Blairsville, Georgia passed away on Sunday December 16, 2018 in Lawrenceville, GA following an extended illness. Dave was born on February 2, 1939 in Madison, WI., the first-born son of the late Charles Ray Martens and Ruth Freye Martens of Wisconsin.

Dave was born and raised in Wisconsin where he enjoyed fishing, lake life and cars.  He was particularly fond of his 1940 Dodge.  He enjoyed a sweet family life with his twin sisters, Karen and Sharon and his much younger brother Dan whom he shared a special bond and love of similar interest.  At the age of 17 he met and fell madly in love with Diane Ludwig.  After dating for 4 years, they were married August 27, 1960.  In mid-60s they moved to Atlanta and later settling in Lilburn Georgia to raise their three children – Keith, Wendy and Scott.  Far from home but definitely enjoying the warmer weather, they embrace life in the south.  Dave worked hard to provide for his family as a pressman for several large printing companies.  He worked for Perry Communications in Atlanta, Georgia and Electric City in Anderson, South Carolina.  He and Diane enjoyed their passion for lake life at Lake Hartwell where they first camped then later buying a home on the lake.  In 2004, Dave and Diane moved to Blairsville, Georgia area to enjoy the quiet mountain life close to Lake Nottely.  Besides doing home improvement projects, Dave enjoyed watching old Western movies, and WWII history documentaries.  Dave was very proud of his three grand-children – Kayla, Kristen and Nick.  Each one enjoying a special relationship with him as Grandpa.  He also was proud of his great-grandson Jude whom he loved to tease.  Everyone remembers Dave fondly of his kind heart, sweet smile and teasing wit.  Loving the mountain life, Wendy enjoyed living with Dave over the last years of his retirement and keeping him company.  He will be missed greatly.  We are comforted by the knowledge he is reunited in heaven with his great love, Diane whom he has missed tremendously these last 3 years.
