Cochran Funeral Home and Crematory of Blairsville announces the death of Mr. Robert Charles Barnes, 73, of Blairsville, who passed away on Monday, July 27, 2015 in Union General Hospital in Blairsville.
Mr. Barnes was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on October 25, 1941, a son of the late Edgar Charles Barnes and the late Eleanor Frances Sykes Barnes. He had lived in Blairsville since 1997, moving here from Marietta, Georgia. An avid golfer and reader, Robert was also an active member of First United Methodist Church of Union County. He had been preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Eleanor Elizabeth Bufalini.
Surviving family members include his wife, Marilyn; son, Robert Charles Barnes, II, of Ooltewah, Tennessee and son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth Dean and Dawn Marie Barnes, of Woodstock, Georgia; five grandchildren: Justin Robert Barnes, Branden Charles Barnes, Andrew Charles Barnes, Tyler Edward Barnes, and Kayla Elizabeth Barnes.
Memorial services have been scheduled for Thursday, July 30, 2015, at 2:00 p.m., to be held at First United Methodist Church of Union County, with Pastor Mark Burgess officiating.
If you wish, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the American Cancer Society, or to First United Methodist Church Methodist Activity Center.
