Mr. Willis Francis McKinney age 91 of Daige Drive, Morganton, GA. passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on Saturday Feb. 6, 2016 following an extended illness. Mr. McKinney was born on Dec. 6, 1924 in Terre Haute, IN., the son of the late Willis L. McKinney and the late Ann Kay Selzimore McKinney. He retired from the Opaloka Police Department after over twenty seven years of service. He was a veteran of the US Army Air Core of WWII. Willis loved flying planes and also building and flying remote control planes. He was a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather. He was preceded in death by a son, Glenn Allen McKinney in 1974. Mr. McKinney was of the Lutheran faith. Surviving Mr. McKinney are his loving wife and best friend of over sixty five years, Virginia Young McKinney of Cedartown, GA., one son and daughter in law, Mike and Linda McKinney of Morganton, one sister, Lois Stanhope of Orlando, FL., one grandson, Christopher McKinney of Knoxville, TN., many other relatives and friends also survive. A memorial service will be held at a later date and interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery in Okeechobee, FL. In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project in Mr. McKinney’s memory.
