Mrs. Birdie Mae Murray: Obituary

Mrs. Birdie Mae Murray age 96 of Holly Hill Landing Blairsville passed away peacefully on Thursday May 19, 2016 in the Union County Nursing Home following a brief illness.

Mrs. Murray was born on April 8, 1920 in Bamburg, SC., the daughter of the late Simmi and Elizabeth Ayer. Birdie loved sports and was a very avid Braves fan. She loved watching her t v. Birdie had once served as Miss Bamburg Beauty Queen. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, William Marvin Murray Jr, also two sisters, Hattie Lou Blacker and Vonettie Smith and three brothers, Lonnie, Avery and Tillman Ayers. Mrs. Murray was a member of the First Baptist Church of Blairsville.

Surviving Mrs. Murray are one son and daughter in law, Bill and Miriam Murray of Brazelton, GA. three grandchildren, Beth Boylen, Jeff and Robin Murray, Jim and Marla Watson all of Atlanta, three great grandchildren,. Olivia Watson, Taylor and Payton Murray, several nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends also survive.

A memorial service will be held on Monday May 23, 2016 at 2:00 pm from the Mountain View Chapel with the Rev. Stacy Dyer officiating. In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that donations may be made to the Union County Nursing Home/Activities Fund in Mrs. Murray’s memory. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Monday from 1-2:00 pm. Mountain View Funeral Home of Blairsville is in charge of the arrangements.
