Mr. Silas Maynard: Obituary

Mr. Silas Maynard age 74 of Blairsville went to be with his Savior on Friday December 23, 2016 from the Union General Hospital following an extended illness. Silas was born on July 18, 1942 in Delbarton, W.VA., the son of the late Erva Maynard and the late Orie Jude Maynard. He loved woodworking and anything else that involved working with his hands. He could fix almost anything. One of his greatest accomplishments in life was when he was saved on May 17, 2009. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Bessie Maynard, his second wife, Ruth Maynard, his son, Silas Anthony Maynard and several brothers and sisters. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Silas was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

Surviving Mr. Maynard are his loving wife and best friend, Daisy Bowers Groves Maynard of Blairsville, two daughters and one son in law, Carla and James Cochran of Nottingham, PA., Kim Little of Quarryville, PA., one son and daughter in law, Kevin and Katie Maynard of Peach Bottom, PA., stepchildren and their spouses, Leslie and Mona Groves, Perry and Melissa Groves and Sherry Groves all of Blairsville, Sonya and Duane Chandler of Nottingham, PA., Belton Moore of Baltimore, MD., a special grand daughter who loved Silas dearly, Greda Groves, seventeen grandchildren, many great grandchildren, a host of his church family, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday Dec. 27, 2016 at 1:00 pm from the Mountain View Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Young and Rev. Kenny Beavers officiating. Special music will be presented by the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Choir. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Leslie, Perry, John and Deacon Groves, Joey Swanson and James Cochran. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be the Deacons of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that donations may be made to the American Heart Association, American Lung Association, American Kidney Foundation or to the Union County Dialysis Center in Mr. Maynard memory. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Monday evening from 5-8:00 pm. Mountain View Funeral Home of Blairsville is in charge of the arrangements.
