Mr. William “Brent” Southard: Obituary

Mr. William “Brent” Southard age 73 of Blairsville passed away peacefully on Tuesday January 24, 2017 in the Union General Hospital following an extended illness. Brent was born on Sept. 26, 1943 in Macon County, NC., the son of the late John Southard and the late Dorothy Ray Southard. In the early 70’s Brent served as Union County EMA Director and also worked with the Union County Fire Department when it first became a paid fire department. He served as a Reserve Deputy for several years. Brent always enjoyed meeting people, talking, and shooting guns. He was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Charles Robert Southard. Brent was of the Methodist faith.

Surviving Mr. Southard are his loving wife and best friend of fifty three years, Carolyn Cabe Southard of Blairsville, two daughters and sons in law, Judy and Barry Hughes of Murphy, NC., Tina and Mike Brown of Blairsville, one brother, James Southard of Snellville, GA., one granddaughter and her husband, Kayla and Dustin Thompson of Blairsville, two great grandchildren, River Owen and Cora Faith Thompson. Many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 27, 2017 at 11:00 am from the Mountain View Chapel with the Rev. Ray Potts officiating. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Dustin Thompson, Mike Brown, Barry Hughes, Corey Ross, Danny Southard and Bobby Southard. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations may be made to Pruitt Health Hospice of Blue Ridge, Georgia in Brent’s memory. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 5-8:00 pm. Mountain View Funeral Home of Blairsville is in charge of the arrangements.
