Mr. Richard “Joey” Browning: Obituary

Richard “Joey” Browning of  Blairsville, passed away Tuesday, January 31, 2017 in his home surrounded by friends and family. He was born April 12, 1961 and was the son of Charleen Collins Browning and the late Hoyt Browning. He is preceded in death by his father, Hoyt Browning, and one sister, Martha Clark. Joey was a graduate of UCHS. He attended both Georgia Tech and Southern Tech. Joey worked for several Telecommunication companies during his career and was considered a specialist in his field, traveling all over the world. He was an avid reader and was always considered the most intelligent person in the room, regardless of who he was with or where he was at. You always wanted Joey on your trivia team, which he enjoyed playing. Joey was a strong person with a gentle soul. He never had any interest in material things and would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. Joey’s biggest hobby was to try and save everyone around him, both people and cats – And was usually successful. He loved them all. Anyone who had the privilege of knowing Joey has a better life just for having known him – He will be greatly missed by all that knew him.

Joey is survived by his mother, Charleen Browning, one sister and brother-in-law Cherry and Eddy Hood. He also leaves behind 4 nieces and 1 nephew: Penny and Ben Fitzgerald, Abbey Clark, Calley Hood, Haley and Mitch Henderson and Adam and C J Clark. Many other great-nieces and nephews also survive, along with many friends he considered as close as family.

Viewing to be held on Thursday, Feb 2 from 6 – 9 pm and funeral will be held in the chapel on Friday, Feb 3 at 11:00am. Flowers will be accepted, or you may make a donation in lieu of flowers to the Humane Society in his memory. Interment will be in New Liberty Church Cemetery Mountain View Funeral Home of Blairsville is in charge of the arrangements.
