Hope House of Union County held its annual Super Chef Showdown fund raising event Saturday, March 11, 2017 at the Blairsville First United Methodist Church on Hwy. 515.
From the looks of it, they seem to have had another successful gathering of people, food and music. The Union County Police Department won the Cook-off with their delicious Brunswick Stew. The Union County Fire Department gave them a run for their money with their New England Clam Chowder.
There were 17 Super Chefs in all plus a long table set up in the middle of the room with breads, buns, cold cuts, veggies and tea. There was excellent bar-b-que, meat balls, blackberry cobbler, brownies, stews and even Louisiana seafood gumbo; all scratch made by the contending chefs. The Union County Jazz Band played several big-band numbers with some great saxophone solos to round it all out.
Glenn McCullers, a Hope House Board Member, was MC for the event. McCullers said they raised four thousand dollars last year.
Prizes were raffled off every few minutes throughout the event and a silent auction for, among other things, a Permasteel bar-b-que grill, trout fishing lessons and a horse back trail ride was held. Blairsville Mayor Jim Conley and Union County Sheriff Mack Mason were there to sample the fare.
All in all, it was a fun day for everyone and, it appears, a successful day for Hope House and the people in the community they help.
