Mildred “Millie” Lavinia Dunbrack: Obituary

Mildred Lavinia Dunbrack was born on November 22, 1914, in Shelburne, Nova Scotia, Canada. She was the youngest daughter of ten children of Austin George Firthand Florence Lavinia(Towner) Firth. Mildred spent her early life in Nova Scotia; she moved with her family to Dorchester, MA as a teenager and attended high school there. After her marriage to Edson Innes Dunbrack she lived in Waltham, MA. When Edson retired from the Raytheon Mfg. Co. they moved to West Yarmouth, MA on Cape Cod and lived a wonderful retiree life. After Edson’s death Mildred moved to Georgia to be near family in Atlanta. She then lived at Branan Lodge in Blairsville for 26 years. Mildred gave up her independent living this past January and lived with her daughter until a recent illness. Mildred was a member of Sharp Memorial Methodist Church where she was part of the Nifty Needles group. She made over 100 sweaters for children around the world and was noted for her exquisite needlework: knitting, quilting, and crocheting for family and friends. She was famous for her molasses cookies in earlier years and always enjoyed cookies and a cup of tea. Her siblings (six brothers and three sisters), her husband and a granddaughter pre-deceased her.

Surviving family members are: daughters Doris L. Tilly of Blairsville, GA and Carolyn L. Collins of Hellertown, PA, five grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. Miss Millie was the center of her family and loved by all who knew her. She will be remembered for her sweet smile and her positive attitude. She was a beautiful lady of 102 years.

A memorial service will be held at Branan Lodge in Blairsville,GA on June 3rd at 3:00 p.m., The Reverend David Tinsley officiating. Interment will be at a future date in The Ancient Cemetery, Yarmouthport,MA. Donations may be made in lieu of flowers to Sharp Memorial Methodist Church and Branan Lodge.
