Mr. James Ira Scott: Obituary

Mr. James Ira Scott age 85 of Blairsville passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday July 26, 2017 following an extended illness. Mr. Scott was born Jan. 23, 1932 in Atlanta, GA., the son of the late James Lloyd Scott and the late Edna Mae Hawkins Scott. James loved playing Men’s Softball, softball was his passion. He loved people and never met a stranger. He was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and great grandfather and most of all loved his Lord. He witnessed to his family on many occasions. He was preceded in death by his parents and also a son, Robert Michael Scott. James was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving Mr. Scott are his loving wife and best friend of sixty five years, Gloria Ann Gillespie Scott of Blairsville, two sons and two daughters in law, Steve and Patricia Scott of Lilburn, GA., David and Peggy Scott of Blairsville, one sister and brother in law, Carol and Larry Murray of Fernando Beach, FL , five grandchildren, Stephanie Booth, Heather, Michelle, Jill and Jordan Scott, seven great grandchildren, Ansley, Zack, Victoria, Kate, Bentley, Noah and Knightly , many other relatives and friends also survive.

A memorial service will be held on Friday July 28, 2017 at 11:00 am at the Shady Grove Methodist Church with the Rev. Jan Devereau officiating. Special music will be presented by his son, David Scott. Flowers are accepted or if you wish, the family requests that donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital in memory of Mr. Scott. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will meet with friends following the service at the church. Mountain View Funeral Home of Blairsville is in charge of the arrangements.
