Mrs. Dona Parkhurst: Obituary

Dona Parkhurst passed away peacefully on September 15, 2017 surrounded by her family at her home in Blairsville, GA.

Dona Lee Cordes was born April 1, 1948 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Donald Cordes and Lucile Treptow. She was a 1966 graduate of Horlick High School in Racine, Wisconsin. Dona met the love of her life in high school when Richard couldn’t stop staring at the beautiful new girl on the bus. They married on Dona’s 19th birthday and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary five months ago. They went on to have three beautiful daughters and the biggest joy of her life were her five grandchildren, who caused her to pick out a large home for retirement and large van to make sure everyone had a place at grandma’s. She was deeply loved. Dona had a beautiful flair for decorating homes, having bought and sold at least 10 since 1980. No matter where they lived, Dona made the house a home, particularly at Christmas when family would arrive no matter how far the distance. She had a passion for good music and movies and loved disco dancing back in the day. She spent time volunteering at animal shelters and shelters for troubled youth. She came around to her senses from following the Chicago Bears and became a devoted Green Bay Packers fan. She loved to travel out west with her husband to places like Custer State Park and Rocky Mountain National Park. She was known for getting way too close to the buffalo to take just the right picture.

Those left to cherish her memory include her loving husband Richard, her three daughters, Kristin Lombardi (Sal) and grandson Will Lombardi of Brentwood, Tennessee; Kelly Micka (John) of Waukee, Iowa and two grandchildren, Abraham and Eleanor; Kira Deck (Kevin) and granddaughters Emma and Clara of Franklin, Tennessee; as well as brothers Robin Treptow, Philip Treptow, Kip Cordes, sisters Merry Bartlett, Robin Harmon and Jody Stump, and several nieces, nephews and numerous friends. She is finally pain-free. May she forever be our dancing queen in that great boogie wonderland in the sky.

A celebration of life is being planned at a time and place to be determined. A special thank you to the staff at Regency Hospice. Mountain View Funeral Home of Blairsville is in charge of the arrangements. You may sign the family guest book and send condolences on line at www.mountainviewfuneralhome.com
