Blairsville 2017 Election Results

BLAIRSVILLE, Ga. – The city of Blairsville held its 2017 election on Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2017. The Blairsville City Charter provides for a ‘strong-council weak-mayor‘ form of government with staggered elections of the mayor and council members. This year Mayor Conley and Council Members Tony Dyer and Buddy Moore were up for election. All of them ran unopposed, according to Blairsville City Clerk Kaye McCann; therefore, no voting was necessary. (Featured picture: L to R, Mayor Jim Conley, Council Members Buddy Moore, Tony Dyer.)

However, with the passing of Council Member Martha Cone last April, two Blairsville residents, Mary Ruth Clark and Jonathan Love, ran for her vacated seat. A total of 30 votes were cast. Clark won with 80 percent of the vote; that is 24 votes.

Clark has been a resident of Blairsville for 68 years. She will be sworn in at the next Blairsville City Council Meeting on Dec. 5, 2017. There was no picture of Clark available at the time of this writing.
