Mr. Thomas (Tom) Marvin Garrison age 86 of Hiawassee, GA passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 in the North East GA Medical Center following an extended illness. Mr. Garrison was born on Dec. 4, 1931 in Birmingham, AL, the son of the late Thomas Garrison and the late Margaret Cagle Garrison. Tom was a veteran of the US Navy during the Korean War and served as a pilot. Tom started his military career in High School with the ROTC. He attended Auburn University and served as a Pilot with Eastern Airlines for over thirty two years. He was a member of Airline Pilots Association. He enjoyed woodworking, making furniture, sailing, riding motorcycles and camping. Mr. Garrison was a member of Sharp Memorial United Methodist Church in Young Harris, GA.
Surviving Mr. Garrison are his loving wife and best friend, Joyce Garrison of Hiawassee, one daughter and son in law, Dawn Garrison and Scott Sweebe of Cody, WY, one son and daughter in law, Rusty and Sue Garrison of Monroe, GA, three grandchildren, Tressa and Patrick Hasty, Heather and Brandon Coker, Kaitlyn and Zach Horsley, four great grandchildren, Miriam Horsley, William Hasty, Lynly and Sabrina Coker, many other relatives and friends also survive.
A graveside service will be held on Sunday, April 8, 2018 at 3:30 pm at the Laurel Hills Memory Gardens with Pastor David Tinsley officiating. Special music will be presented by Vickie Burick. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers; Marty Tabacchi, Ernie Boetz, Larry Dunwoody, John Harrison, Al Swope, Pat Brewer and Bob Thompson. Serving as honorary pallbearer will be Hank Shook. The North GA Honor Guard will conduct Military Honors. The family will meet with friends at the Mountain View Funeral Home on Sunday from 1-3:00 pm. Flowers are accepted or if you wish, the family requests that donations may be made to Sharp Memorial United Methodist Church, Hillsdale College, Heart Mountain Volunteer Medical Clinic, and/or the Salvation Army.
