BLAIRSVILLE, GA – Commissioner Lamar Paris proclaimed Oct. 6, 2019, as St. Clare’s Episcopal Church Day, honoring its 35 years in the community.
The first official service of St Clare’s Episcopal Church was held on October 7, 1984. The parish congregated then at the First United Methodist Church on Cleveland Street.
In Oct. 1988, the mission began worshiping at the Susan B. Harris Chapel until building its own facility on Ledford Road in 1995.
St. Clare’s has been involved in numerous community activities and outreach on local, state, and worldwide levels. It continually assists the Union County’s non-profit organizations, such as the Hope House, Helping Hands Community Clinic, the Ecumenical Food Pantry, S.A.F.E, Meals on Wheels, and Family Connection.
The Episcopal Church is part of the worldwide Anglican Communion and traces its heritage to the beginnings of Christianity. Their liturgy retains ancient structure and traditions and is celebrated in many languages. Both men and women, including those who are married, are eligible for ordination as deacons, priests and bishops. They celebrate unity in Christ while honoring differences, always putting the work of love before uniformity of opinion.
Currently, Rev. Liz Schellingerhoudt serves as rector at St. Clare’s Episcopal Church and services are held on Sundays at 10:30 a.m., Holy Eucharist, and Wednesdays at 12:15 p.m., Weekday Eucharist.
