Richard Walter Williams Jr: Obituary

Richard Walter Williams Jr., age 86, a long-time resident of Blairsville, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 26, 2019, in the Union County Nursing Home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on September 12, 1933 in Baltimore, MD., the son of the late Richard Walter Williams Sr. & late Helen Murphy Williams. Richard was an avid sports fan, especially of football. He was an accomplished fly-fisherman and a member of Trout Unlimited; he also enjoyed playing Bridge.  He also attended Oasis where he learned basket-weaving and became very proficient. Richard graduated from Yale in the class of 1958. He worked as a Civil Engineer for major corporations before founding his own company, R.W. Williams & Associates in Marietta, GA. He also served two years in the army as a Military Policeman. Richard was a very devout member of Coosa United Methodist Church where he held several offices including President of Trustees. Richard is preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth “Trudy” Pitt Williams in 2003.

Survivors include his loving wife & best-friend of five years, Judith McKellips-Williams of Blairsville, a son and daughter-in-law, Court & Holly Williams of Blairsville, a daughter, Elizabeth Williams of Hiram, GA., step-son & daughter-in-law, John & Anne Mohan of Chicago, IL., two step-daughters, Dr. Jacqueline Mohan & Paul Frankson of Athens, GA., Dr. Elizabeth & Michael Lindsey of Hiawassee, eight grandchildren, Devin Griffin, Jonathan Lindsey, Julia Lindsey, Danielle Lindsey, Michael Lindsey, Harmony Lindsey, Destiny Lindsey, and Hope Lindsey. Also surviving is his faithful dog, Nellie.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 3, 2020 at 2:00pm from the Coosa United Methodist Church with Rev. Bill Burch officiating. Interment will follow in the Coosa United Methodist Church Cemetery. Special music will be presented by Cynthia Lummé & Elizabeth Lindsey. The family will receive friends from 1:00pm-2:00pm at the church prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Coosa United Methodist Church or the Union County Nursing Home Activities Department in Richard’s memory.
