GEORGIA – Two separate boating accidents on different North Georgia Lakes have resulted in serious injures sustained by the boaters.
Around 3:30 this afternoon, Union County Fire Chief David Dyer confirmed that a boat carrying at least seven people, exploded on Lake Nottely.
Two individuals were life-flighted to Grady while five others were seen at Union General.
The explosion happened near the cozy cove section of the lake.
There is not an official cause as to what could have caused this boating accident, however a family member stated on social media that they had just gotten gas and it seems it could be a freak accident relating to the fumes from the gasoline.
Later in the day another boating accident was reported on Lake Lanier.
Emergency crews responded to a reported boat explosion around 7:00 p.m.
Hall County Fire Rescue stated that five people were found injured and the blaze from the explosion was 5-feet-high.
Four of the injured boaters were transported by ambulance to the hospital and one was life-flighted.
The extent of their injuries or what caused the explosion has not been released.
