Mary JoAnn Nix Townsend: Obituary

Mrs. Mary JoAnn Nix Townsend age 78 of Wills Orchard Rd. Cumming, GA. passed away peacefully on Saturday September 12, 2015 in the Providence Assisted Living of Alpharetta following an extended illness. Mrs. Townsend was born on Sept. 21, 1936 in Copperhill, TN. the daughter of the late Oscar Nix and the late Emily Locke Nix. JoAnn Was preceded in death by one son, Greg Townsend. Three sisters, Joyce Harmon, Minnie Jewell King and Betty Nix. Brothers, Tommy Nix, Eddie Nix, Jimmy Nix and Phillip Nix. Mrs. Townsend was a member of Heritage Hill Baptist Church. JoAnn had taught Sunday School for many years at her church. She was a great cook who loved cooking for her family and friends. JoAnn had worked for a short time as a switchboard operator for the telephone company as well as a book keeper for the Federal Reserve bank in Atlanta until she became a fulltime homemaker. Mrs. Townsend is survived by her husband Tom Townsend, formerly of Blairsville, GA, her children, Deb Couey, Donna and Larry Konieczny, Gerald Townsend, Daughter in law, Jean Brodrick Townsend and one sister, Ruby Turner. Grandchildren, Joseph and Rachel, Alex and Kendall Konieczny, Sarah and Aaron Couey. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday September 15, 2015 at 2:00 PM from the Mountain View Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Ray Potts and Rev. Waymon Lovell officiating. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers, Joe Konieczny, Jerry Hubert, Alan Couey, Dow Hurst and John Jinks. Interment will follow in the MounatinView Cemetery, McCaysville, GA. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday evening from 6-9 PM. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in JoAnn’s memory.
