Mr. Gordon Wesley Shaner, age 81, of Hidden Valley Drive in Canton, GA, formerly of Blairsville, passed away peacefully on Oct. 4, 2015 following a brief illness. Gordon was born on June 10, 1934 in Pittsburgh, PA, the son of the late John D. Shaner and the late Margaret B. Shaner. He was a veteran of the US Army during the Korean War. Before his retirement he was employed as a systems analyst with NCR for over twenty five years. Gordon was a history and Civil War buff and had written a book on the Civil War. He was a loving father, brother and grandfather who cherished his grandchildren. Surviving Mr. Shaner are one son and daughter in law, John and Tani Shaner of Ocoee, TN, one daughter and son in law, Margaret and Darren Gardner of Canton, GA, one brother and sister in law, Richard and Cheryl Shaner of Fredericksburg, VA, three grandchildren, Allyson and Mason Shaner, Elena Gardner. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2015 at 1:00 pm at the Union Memory Gardens Cemetery in Blairsville with the Rev. Mary Parson officiating. Special music will be presented by Allyson Shaner. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be sent to Second Wind Dreams at 11115 Houze Rd., Suite 150, Roswell, GA 30076 in Gordon’s memory. The family will meet with friends following the services. Mountain View Funeral Home of Blairsville is in charge of the arrangements.
