Conda Casteel: Obituary

Conda Casteel, better known as “C.C.” Hemphill, age 94, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away on Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at his home.

Mr. Hemphill was born in Blairsville on March 15, 1921. He and his wife Eva married on May 29th, 1943. They had sons: Franklin, Charles, Danny, David and Kenney; and a daughter, Barbara Patricia Hemphill. C.C. was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church, and enjoyed trout fishing as a hobby. He was a very hard worker, and did fur trapping and trading; sawmilling, chicken, cattle and hay farming. His favorite tractor was a 135 Massey Ferguson. The great grandchildren will remember how he would pick at them, trying to get a laugh or a smile…..he was a good man, salt of the earth. Honest to a fault…..hard-working – fiercely so! He and his wife Eva raised five good men….. “C.C.” will be greatly missed!

Family members left behind to carry on the legacy are: wife, Eva; sons and daughter: Franklin Conda Hemphill, Charles Edward Hemphill, Barbara Patricia Hemphill, Danny Dennis Hemphill, David Bruce Hemphill, and Kenneth Glynn Hemphill; brothers and sisters: Harold Dwight Hemphill, Mary Ruth Hemphill Shook, Seth Cleveland Hemphill, Nannaree Hemphill, and Cornella Jean Hemphill; grandchildren:Bruce Hemphill, Dianne Hemphill Mosley, Chasity Hemphill Cochran, Travis Hemphill, Lacey Hemphill Rothe, Bridget, Brittany, Brianna, and Kendon Hemphill. Great grandchilden: Mitch, Michaela, and Matthew Mosley; Sadie JoyLynn Cochran.
Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, February 6, 2016, at 2:00 p.m., to be held in the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home. Special music will be presented by Rev. Jack Cochran and The Hemphill Family. Burial will be in Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery, with the following gentlemen requested to serve as pallbearers: Rev. Jack Cochran, Bruce Hemphill, Travis Hemphill, Kendon Hemphill, Mitch Mosley, Matthew Mosley, and Jason Rothe. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday evening, between the hours of 6 until 9 p.m.

Flowers are being accepted by the family; however, they have suggested that in lieu flowers, donations could be made to Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery Fund; c/o Charles Hemphill, 1641 Gum Log Road, Blairsville, GA 30512.
