Peter Steven Norling, age 63, of Jones Road, Blairsville, GA joined his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday Feb. 3, 2016 at his home after valiantly battling cancer for many years. He was comforted by his wife Gayle and son Erik during his final hours. Devoted friends were nearby. Pete was born in Quincy, MA, to the late Clifford Norling, a career Marine, and the late Florence Foy Norling. Pete was a streetrod builder and enthusiast. He also was a motorcycle racing champion in his younger days. He was funny, very organized, outspoken, loved animals, and loved street rods and gears. If it had wheels and gears, he liked it. Between chemo and radiation treatments, he enjoyed traveling with Gayle before he became too ill to leave home. Pete passionately loved the Lord, his family, devoted friends, and his church family. He got great pleasure from his companion pups, Hilde Lea and Cassie Marie. He was an Elder and member of All Saints Lutheran Church in Blairsville. His career as a Mechanical Engineer gave him the opportunity to do some work in the aerospace industry and do a little traveling. Before retiring, he worked at Corrugated Replacements in Blairsville, GA where they accommodated his treatment schedules. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Janice Norling and Nancy O’Shaughnessy, and Nancy’s husband Bob O’Shaughnessy. Pete is survived by his devoted wife and best friend, Gayle England-Norling whom he met on a blind date; a son and daughter-in-law Erik and Nicole Norling of St. Petersburg, FL; a daughter Ruth Norling and husband Jason of St. Claire, MI; his grandchildren Brooklyn Rose and Trevor Peter Norling of St. Petersburg, FL; one sister Kay Herlihy of Haverhill, MA; his niece Karen Disher and nephew Steven O’Shaughnessy, both of MA; and many with other fantastic relatives. A Celebration of Pete’s life will be held on Saturday Feb. 6, 2016 at 11:30 am at All Saints Lutheran Church Blairsville, GA with Pastor Dave Wesche officiating. Pastor Steve Midkiff will present the Eulogy. Special music will be presented by Carol Blackburn, Director, and soloist Steve Curlee. The family will meet with friends following the services at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be made to Furkids Dog Shelter, 1520 Union Hill Road, Alpharetta, GA 30005, or to the American Cancer Society of GA, 250 Williams Street, Suite 600, Atlanta, GA 30303, in memory of Pete Norling. Mountain View Funeral Home of Blairsville is in charge of the arrangements. You may sign the family guest book and send condolences on line at www.mountainviewfuneralhome.com
