Mrs. Betty Jean Harkins Young: Obituary

Mrs. Betty Jean Harkins Young age 77 of Blairsville passed away peacefully on Wednesday November 8, 2017 at her home following a courageous battle with cancer.

Mrs. Young was born on September 29, 1940 in Union County, the daughter of the late William Harkins and the late Nellie Garrett Harkins. She was a native and lived most of her life in Union County. Betty loved sewing, fishing and most of all spending time with her family. She was very loving and caring lady. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Sanford Young in 2003, a son, Tommy Haynes in 2008, three sisters, Dorthy Johnson, Haley Davis and Laura Mae Turner. Mrs. Young was a member of Liberty Baptist Church.

Surviving Mrs. Young are three brothers and sisters in law, Howard and Barbara Harkins of Gastonia, NC., James and Maxine Harkins of Suches, William and Janet Harkins of Dallas, GA., step children, Charles Young Jr. of Hamilton, OH., Judy Swisher of Chattanooga, Cheryl ImHoff of TN., Karen Semones of Hillsboro, TN., one grandson, David Haynes, five great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday November 11, 2017 at 1:00 pm from the Mountain View Chapel with the Rev. Brent Chatham officiating. Betty’s favorite hymns will be provided for the service. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Jimmy Davis, Eddie Davis, Leroy Johnson, Ben harkins, Charles Sanford Young Jr. (Chuck), Alan Foster and Jeff Harkins. Interment will follow in the Liberty Baptist Church cemetery where she will rest next to her beloved husband Charles. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 10-1:00 pm prior to the service. Mountain View Funeral Home of Blairsville is in charge of the arrangements.
