Mary Owenby Dockery: Obituary

Cochran Funeral Home and Crematory of Blairsville announces funeral services for Mrs. Mary Owenby Dockery, age 93, lifelong resident of Young Harris, Georgia, who passed away on Thursday, March 22, 2018 in Clay County Care Center in Hayesville, North Carolina.

Mrs. Dockery was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church. She will always be remembered by how she lovingly tended her flowers and garden, and how she enjoyed every minute of caring for them. A wonderful cook, her specialty were her biscuits – they were the very best! She had a black cat that was special to her, whom she named “Stubs”. Mrs. Dockery had been preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Dockery; a son, Junior Dockery; and her parents, Gordon Owenby and Laura Brown Owenby.
Surviving family members left to treasure their memories of Mrs. Dockery are: son and daughter-in-law, James and Tillie Dockery, of Morganton, Georgia; daughter and son-in-law, Frances and Harold Henderson, of Young Harris, Georgia; and daughter and son-in-law, Jessie and Ricky Davis, of Blairsville; two sisters: Alice Conard, of Gastonia, North Carolina, and Norma Dockery, of Blairsville, Georgia; eight grandchildren: Tommy Dockery, Jeanne Dockery, Joy Tillman, Chris Dockery, Cameron Henderson, Casey Henderson, Cody Henderson, and Brooke Henderson; nine great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services have been scheduled for Saturday, March 24, 2018, to be held at 4:00 p.m., in the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home in Blairsville. The following grandsons have the honor to serve as pallbearers: Cameron Henderson, Casey Henderson, Cody Henderson, Tommy Dockery, Jamey Dockery, and Chris Dockery. Burial will be in Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery, where Mrs. Dockery will be laid to rest next to her husband.

Visitation at the funeral home will be held on Friday evening, March 23rd, between the hours of 6 until 9 p.m.
