TeamFYNSports Writer’s Player of the Week – Jonah Daniel

The Athlete of the Week comes from Union County High’s varsity football team as junior Jonah Daniel rushed for more than 200 yards, while running in three scores and catching a fourth, during the Panthers’ 49-8 victory over Class AAA’s East Hall on Friday night in Rabbittown.

Daniel, who has been plagued by injuries during his career, is finally healthy, and he proved that in a big way Friday night during the win.

Daniel scored each of the Panthers’ first three touchdowns, but gave all the credit to his teammates.

“Our wide receivers, our line, the others backs, and quarterback Pierson Allison are all to0 thank for how I played tonight,” Daniel said. “I wouldn’t have been able to have such a big game without all of those guys doing such a great job.”

Head coach Brian Allison said that Daniel is a great leader and example to the team, both on and off the field.

“He’s battled injuries, but he’s never quit trying to do what’s best for this team, which is a great example to our kids,” Allison said. “He’s a great running back, and, as long as we can keep him healthy, he will keep being that for our team.”
