The TeamFYNSports Writer’s Week 5 Player of the Week for the Union County Panthers is senior wideout Sawyer Drake.
Drake hauled in a game-high nine catches for 146 yards and three touchdowns as the Panthers (5-0, 2-0 Region 8-AA) remained undefeated in 2019 by taking down Putnam County, 74-57, Friday in Eatonton.
The game was high scoring, and the Panthers needed all the clutch plays they could get. Drake provided as many as he could, catching passes on crucial downs that allowed Union County to stay at least two scores ahead of the home-team War Eagles for most of the night.
Heading into the game, Drake had 18 catches on the season for 304 yards and three scores.
In the win against Putnam, he improved that to 27 catches, 450 yards, and six touchdowns on the season, making him the team leader in receptions and tied for the most touchdown catches.
