Sanchez places first in RMA Fall Runaway 5K

GAINESVILLE, GA – Union County High senior cross-country runner Zoe Sanchez posted a time of 19 minutes, 32.61 seconds to finish in first place during the Riverside Military Academy Fall Runaway 5K held Tuesday, Oct. 8, in Gainesville.

Sanchez was followed by fellow-senior Sadie Underwood in seventh place with a time of 22:38.82.

Senior Lexi Ochoa rounded out the top finishers for the Lady Panthers, placing 21st with a time of 24:20.19.

As for the Union County boys’ cross-country team, Luke Gambrell placed second in the race with a time of 17 minutes, 3.43 seconds.

Gambrell was quickly followed by teammate and fourth-place finisher Hunter Hartzog, with a time of 17:32.50.

Union County’s Thomas Mellendorf placed seventh with a time of 17:49.82.

Rounding out the top finishers for the Union County boys were Marcus Forrester (12th place, 18:29.17), Gauge Shumaker (13th place, 18:32.79), Malachi Patrick (18th, 18:44.77), and Trevor Guild (20th, 18:49.8).
