Lady Panthers fall to Rabun County 65-35 in first region matchup of the season

Blairsville, Georgia- The Lady Panthers (2-3) host the #4 ranked Rabun County Wildcats (11-3) in their second game since December 12 due to COVID-19 issues.

First Quarter

The Lady Panthers got on the board first as Rebecca Chambers got things going quickly on offense. The Lady Panthers kept the Ladycats offense quiet early on, forcing quick and contested shots and the Ladycats not being able to score off of those shots. The Ladycats would wake up offensively and go up 9-4 led by Senior Sophie Woodard and Junior Gracie Deetz, forcing Union to use a timeout. The Lady Panthers would struggle to score the ball offensively and the Ladycats would not let up offensively, going on a 10-2 run to end the 1st quarter. The Ladycats were doing a great job keeping the ball away from Ava Hunter throughout the 1st quarter.

Second Quarter

The Lady Panthers started off the quarter with 3 free throws as Ellie Cook was fouled on a 3 pointer. The Lady Panthers were really struggling offensively, missing shots and turning the ball over multiple times. The Ladycats were playing as well as you would expect a #4 ranked team to play. The 2nd quarter was all Ladycats as they outscored the Lady Panthers 28-15 since the middle of the 1st quarter. The Lady Panthers didn’t have much of an answer for the Ladycats defensively as they were scoring on almost every possession. the Ladycats led the Lady Panthers 37-19 at halftime.

Third Quarter

To start the second half, both teams had a slow start, turning the ball over offensively on each teams possessions throughout the beginning of the 3rd quarter. The Ladycats started to wake up offensively, led by Deetz, as she had a huge game offensively. The Lady Panthers were getting a lot of open shots and good looks but nothing was going the Lady Panthers way. The Ladycats led the Lady Panthers 47-24 to end the 3rd quarter as the 3rd quarter was very quiet offensively for both teams.

Fourth Quarter

The Ladycats kept their foot on the gas as they kept things going offensively and the Lady Panthers still struggled on offense. The Ladycats would go on a quick 13-3 run midway through the 4th quarter to make it a 30 point game. The Lady Panthers couldn’t do much of anything offensively in the fourth quarter as the Lady Panthers fall to Rabun County 65-35. The Lady Panthers travel to Lumpkin County on Saturday to face the Indians in a non region matchup.
