Mrs. Joan Mulkey Brooks age 70 of West Gum Log Rd. Warne, NC. passed away on Sunday Jan. 17, 2016 in the N.E. GA. Medical Center following a brief illness. Mrs. Brooks was born on May 14, 1945 in Murphy, NC., the daughter of the late Walter Mulkey and the late Minnie Shook Mulkey. Joan was a lifelong resident of Clay and Towns Counties. She loved gardening, growing flowers, thrift stores and gospel music. She was a loving mother, sister and grandmother. Her grandchildren were her life. She was preceded in death by two sisters, her twin, Joyce Henderson and Peggy Mulkey and a brother, Jerry Mulkey. Joan was a member of Old Brasstown Baptist Church. Surviving Joan are two daughters and sons in law, Missy and Daren (Bear) Osborn of Hiawassee, Jamie and Scott Thomas of Hayesville, one sister, Judy Henderson of Warne, three brothers and one sister in law, Steve Mulkey and Jimmy Mulkey of Warne, Tim and Jennifer Mulkey of Young Harris, Aunts, Gertrude Graves, Lois Parker and Betty Jo Sampson, uncle, Ray (Nut) Shook, five grandchildren, Kayla and Tyler Osborn, Colton, Allison and Leah Thomas, several nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends also survive. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday Jan. 20, 2016 at 11:00 am from the Mountain View Chapel with the Rev. Harold Ledford and Rev. Jimmy Rogers officiating. Special music will be presented by Nicole Mason and the Rogers family. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Nick, Josh and Casey Mulkey, Ryan Osborn, Ronnie Shook and Chris Busbee. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be, Melvin Cantrell, David Rogers and Blake Brooks. Interment will follow in the Many Forks Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6-9:00 pm. Mountain View Funeral Home of Blairsville is in charge of the arrangements.
