Mary Margaret Turner, age 83 of Hiawassee, formerly of Blairsville passed away peacefully on Friday, March 23, 2018 at North East GA Medical Center following an extended illness. Mary was born on December 7, 1934 in Topeka, KS. She was the daughter of the late Garnett Collins and the late Eunice Cary Collins. Mary graduated from Clayton State College with a degree in Aviation Administration. She then worked at Eastern Airlines and later as a Diplomat with the US State Department for over fifteen years. In addition to traveling the world, Mary wrote and published the book “God Doesn’t Need a Passport but the Rest of Us Do”. She was a very loving mother, grandmother and friend to many. Mary was a faithful Christian and was a member of the Coosa United Methodist Church.
Surviving Mary are one daughter and son in law, Leslie and Richard Sale of Tybee Island, GA, one grandson, Manny Carucci of Tybee Island, GA, two nieces, Cynthia Collier and Cheryl Mitchell, both of Texas, an endless list of special friends, and a host of Mary’s church family. Mary was also mother to the late Charles Mandell “Manny” Turner.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, March 26, 2018 at 2:00 pm at the Mountain View Chapel with the Rev. Roy Watkins officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Coosa United Methodist Church Women’s Ministry in memory of Mary Turner.
