Michael “Mike” Derry Glenn: Obituary

Mr. Michael “Mike” Derry Glenn age 63 of P. Patton Lane Blairsville passed away on Wednesday September 4, 2019 at his home following an extended illness.. Mr. Glenn was born on March 23, 2019 in Youngstown, OH., the son of the late Thomas Jerome Glenn Sr., and the late Grace Marie Hagerty Glenn. He was a veteran of the US Air Force. Mike was a fireman with the South Trail Fire Department in Lee County, FL.., for many years and was promoted to Battalion Chief. Up until his illness he was employed with Heritage Propane for over fourteen years. He was a loving and caring husband, father and brother. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Katie Glenn and also two brothers, John Glenn and Thomas Glenn, three sisters, Lorene Glenn, Grace Ann Bartal and Christine Glenn. Mike was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.
Surviving Mr. Glenn are his loving wife and best friend, Tina Rice Glenn of Blairsville, three sons, Josh Glenn of Madison, WI., Zachary Glenn of Tiffon, OH., Christopher Glenn of Blairsville, two sisters and two brothers in law, Mary Eileen Gelbke and Nadine and Daniel McClure all of Waverly, W.VA., Dr.Joseph Bartal, several nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends also survive.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday October 26, 2019 at 9:00 am from St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church with Father Jaime Rivera officiating. Special music will be presented by Ron Gaucher. Interment and graveside services will follow in Tuesday October 29, 2019 at 1:00 pm form the GA National Cemetery in Canton. The North GA Honor Guard will conduct Military Honors. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Friday October 25, 2019 from 5-8:00 pm. Also a Celebration of Mike’s life will be held at 6:00 pm on Saturday at his residence at 125 P. Patton Lane with food, drinks and a bonfire for his family and many friends. Flowers are accepted or if you wish, the family requests that donations may be made to the St. Vincent DePaul Society or to the Union County Humane Society Mtn. Shelter in Mike’s memory.

Obituaries August 28, 2019The Cochran Funeral Home & Crematory of Blairsville announces the death of Mrs. Kathy Ann Stewart, age 66, of Blairsville Georgia who went home to be with our Lord and Savior on August 26, 2019 following an extended illness.
She was born to Lawrence and Wanda Goodwin on October 13, 1952 in Atlanta, Georgia. Kathy loved the outdoors, fishing, camping, and being with friends. She had a great sense of humor and a kind heart.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Steve Stewart; and daughter, Connie. She is survived by her two sons, Denny Chosewood and Steven Stewart of Franklin, GA; with grandchildren and great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Gale Sims and Cindy Galloway; several nephews; 1 niece; and numerous friends.
No Services are planned at this time.
A special Thank You to Union County Nursing Home staff for taking such great care of Kathy. Also, to Cochran Funeral Home for all of their kindness and generosity. She will be greatly missed!

SCPO Thomas Decatur Blanton, USN Ret., age 84, of Scout Trace, Blairsville and a former lifelong resident of Sarasota, FL, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 19, 2019, at the Northeast Georgia Regional Medical Center following a brief illness. Tom was born on July 16, 1935, in Richmond, VA., the son of the late Millard Woodrow Blanton and the late Helen Faye Hawk Blanton. Tom was a veteran of the US Navy having given thirty years of service for his country. He was a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Marie Blanton (in 2001) and his brother, Jerry Blanton. Tom was a member of Antioch Baptist Church.
Surviving Tom are his loving wife and best friend of eighteen years, CoraLee Blanton of Blairsville, his only daughter and her husband, Deborah Lynn (Blanton) and Thomas Cole of Palmetto, FL., his only granddaughter and her husband, Kathy Jo and Anthony Kinsey, of Palmetto, FL, several extended family on the Blanton side, a host of his church family, and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 21, 2019, at 1:00 pm at Antioch Baptist Church with Rev. George Cline officiating. Special music will be presented by Sarah Davis. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers: Hunter Payne, Luke Brendle, Mike Bittel, Darrell Dorn, Tom Cole and Randal Cole. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be: Paul Clark, Wes Dillard, Allen Johnson, Terry Kintz, Art Upchurch, Jeff Overbay and Walter Gadd. Interment will follow in the Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery with the North Georgia Honor Guard conducting Military Honors and Taps being presented by Eli Reeves. Flowers are accepted, and any donations may be made to: Operation Second Chance, 20251 Century Blvd., Suite 103, Germantown, MD, 20874 (operationsecondchance.org) or Antioch Baptist Church in memory of Tom Blanton. Operation Second Chance benefits wounded veterans for their military service. The family will meet with friends at the church on Wednesday from 12:00 – 1:00 pm.

Mr. Millard Fillmore (Jerry) Crubaugh Jr. age 92 of Union County Nursing Home, Blairsville, GA formally from Kingston, IL and Pinellas Park, FL passed away on Monday July 22, 2019 at the Union County Nursing Home. Mr. Crubaugh was born on June 02, 1927 in Peoria, IL., the son of the late Millard Fillmore Crubaugh Sr and Lura Pearl Roney. Millard was a WWII veteran of the US Navy serving in the pacific, a Kentucky wildcats basketball fan and enjoyed playing bridge and games with his family and friends. He was a landscape architect, contractor and nurseryman in Illinois and Florida for several years and very passionate and loving father to his family; he was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was preceded in death by his wife and best friend of sixty-five years Geraldine in 2015, his sons, John Fitzgerald in 1972, Kevin Curtis in 2007, granddaughter Helena in 1984 and one brother Leonard Wayne in 2001. Surviving is one brother Gene and Lida Crubaugh of West Lake Village, CA, six sons and daughter in laws, Michael and Karen Crubaugh of Murphy, NC., Timothy and Soonie Crubaugh of Anaheim, CA., Scott and LorRae Crubaugh of OshKosh, WI., Alex and Bonnie Crubaugh of Ft. Wayne, IN., Guy and Chrissy Crubaugh of Somerset, KY., Jeremy and Robin, Blairsville, GA., daughter and son in law, Gayla and Warren Williams of Rockford, IL., twenty five grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive. Millard was a member of the House of Prayer Church and First Methodist Church of Union County.
A private interment and, graveside services will be held at a later date in the Kingston Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Kingston, IL.

Mrs. Peggy Jean Cannady age 82 of Oak Lane Blairsville passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family at her home on Monday July 15, 2019 following an extended illness. Mrs. Cannady was born on Dec. 4, 1936 in Dawson Springs, KY., the daughter of the late Richard Graham and the late Arlie Lee Graham. Peggy loved sewing, cooking, collecting recipes and cookbooks, and she also loved the family cat Boo Boo, dearly. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Mrs. Cannady was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving Mrs. Cannady is her loving husband of 49 years, William Cannady of Blairsville, one son and daughter-in-law, Scott & Jennifer Cannady of Peachtree City, GA., a daughter and son-in-law, Susan & Mark Applewhite of Suwanee, GA., three cousins, Patty LittleJohn of Hopkinsville, KY., Mike Clayton of Houston, TX., and Terry Clayton of Wilmington, NC., and five grandchildren, Brady, Owen, Danny, Madeline, and Sara.

Mr. Joseph “Joe” Junior Miller age 82 of Lakeside Drive in Blairsville, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Wednesday July 10, 2019 in the Union County Nursing Home following an extended illness. Mr. Miller was born on Feb. 18, 1937 in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of the late Joseph Miller and the late Ruth Stanley Miller. Joe was a veteran of the US Air Force. He was a very active member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church where he loved volunteering for many church activities. In addition, he was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and being outdoors. He served as a Police Officer for the Tampa Police Department and also retired from the US Postal Service with over thirty years of service. He had made his home in Blairsville for the past twenty eight years.
Surviving Mr. Miller are his loving wife and best friend of sixty two years, Cecilia Murgado Miller of Blairsville, two sons and one daughter-in-law, David and Donna Miller, Stuart Miller, one daughter, Susanne Striplin all of Tampa, Florida, two brothers and one sister-in-law, Mike and Karen Miller, Bob Miller all of Clinton, Iowa, one sister, Pat Cartee of Arizona, one granddaughter, Jessica Prince, two great grandchildren, Isabella and Hailey, several nieces, nephews, cousins, many other relatives and friends also survive.
A Funeral Mass at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church will be held on Monday July 29, 2019 at 11:00 am with Father Jaime Rivera officiating. Special music will be presented by Ron Gaucher. Serving as Cantor will be Maryanne Englemann. Interment will follow in the St. Clare’s Memory Gardens with the North Georgia Honor Guard conducting Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation in memory of Mr. Miller. The family will meet with friends following the services.

James Howard Mashburn, age 73 of Blue Ridge, GA, passed away July 15, 2019, in Beattyville, KY. Mr. Mashburn was born November 18, 1945, in Culberson, NC to the late Rowa Mashburn and the late Amanda Iva Lee Arp Mashburn. A member of Sweetgum Baptist Church, he was preceded in death by his brothers and sister-in-law, Clifford Mashburn, Clyde Mashburn, Earl (Joyce) Mashburn, and Tommy Mashburn.
Survivors include: wife, Irene Ratcliff Mashburn; sons, Chad (Julie) Mashburn and Andrew (Amy) Mashburn; brother, Robert (Fay) Mashburn, sister, Ruth (Tommy) Townsend, sisters-in-law, Tressie Mashburn, Catherine Mashburn, and Jean Mashburn; grandchildren, Caleb (Ciarra) Mashburn, Matthew Mashburn, Charity Mashburn, Moriah Mashburn, Hannah Mashburn, and Bradley Mashburn; and great-grandchild, Graceyn Mashburn.

Mr. Cecil “ Glen” Boland age 87 of Lake Vista Drive Blairsville passed away peacefully on Monday July 15, 2019 at his home surrounded by his loving family following an extended illness. Mr. Boland was born on August 14, 1931 in Columbus, GA., the son of the late Bradley Boland and the late Lois Goins Boland. He was a veteran of the US Army. He retired from Florida Power and Light after many years of service. He was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and great grandfather. He was preceded in death by his parents and also four brothers, Bradley, Thomas, Otis and Ernest Boland and two sisters, Mary Smith and Sarah Griffith. Mr. Boland was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
Surviving Mr. Boland are his loving wife and best friend of sixty one years, Janice Williams Boland of Blairsville, one son and daughter in law, Gary and Kathy Boland of Blairsville, one daughter, Lynn Boland of Blairsville, one brother, Jack Boland of Boynton Beach, FL., two grandchildren, Ryan Peterson and Jennifer Baldwin, one great grandchild, Ryleigh Peterson, several nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends also survive.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday August 4, 2019 at 2:00pm from the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Don Landon officiating. In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that donations may be made to Regency Hospice of North GA. or to the First United Methodist Church MAC in Glen’s memory. Interment will follow in the First United Methodist Church Memorial Gardens. The family will meet with friends at the church following the services.
