Mr. Stanley Steve Duckworth age 66 of Mt. Pleasant Church Rd. Cleveland, GA formerly of Union County passed away peacefully on Saturday October 13, 2018 in the North East GA Medical Center following an extended illness. Mr. Duckworth was born on July 25, 1952 in Young Harris, GA., the son of the late Rev. Buford Duckworth and the late Bonnie Mae Deyton Duckworth. Stanley loved fishing and spending time with his family. He was a loving and caring husband, father, brother, grandfather and great grandfather. He was preceded in death by his parents and also two sisters, Regina Buffington and Ellen Cagle and two brothers, Troy and Robert Duckworth. Stanley was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving Mr. Duckworth are his loving wife and best friend of fifty years, Evelyn Forrester Duckworth of Cleveland, two daughters and sons in law, Sandra and Kendall Sullens of Murryville, GA., Tammy and Stacy Smith of Gainesville, two sons and one daughter in law, Dewayne and Nan Duckworth of Cleveland, Stephen Ramey of Cleveland, three sisters and brothers in law, Retha and Gene Collins of Cleveland, Shirl and Britt Herr of Cleveland, Donna and Steve Day of Atlanta, sixteen grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday October 17, 2018 at 3:00 pm from the Old Liberty Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Trotter. A Eulogy will be given by his grandson Chris Daly. Special music will be presented by Tosha and Morris. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Dewayne Duckworth, Stephen Ramey, Dennis Postell, Shane Sullens, Jarriad Duckworth and Nathan Perdue. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Monday from 5-9:00 pm and all day on Tuesday until 9:00 pm.

Seth Paul Ratliff August 1, 1961-June 2, 2019 Born the eldest son of Randy and Lois Ratliff on August 1, 1961 in Pequannock New Jersey, Seth Paul Ratliff entered eternal rest following a brave battle with cancer on June 2, 2019 in Blairsville, Georgia. Paul was preceded in death by his younger brother, Randy Ratliff, Jr., maternal grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Seth Paul Triplett and paternal grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Roy Shaffer. Paul is survived by his son, Eric Paul Ratliff, Kissimmee, Fl.; former spouse Lisa Pearson Ratliff, St. Cloud, Fl.; parents, Randy and Lois Ratliff, Blairsville, Ga.; sisters, Ginny Ratliff, Danville, KY.; Rhonda Ratliff-Wagoner (Bryan), Macon, Ga.; brother Shawn Ratliff, Blairsville, Ga.; and several precious nieces and nephews.
Paul was blessed with exceptional artistic ability, working his entire life as a skilled craftsman, carpenter and stone mason. Many homeowners and businesses throughout Florida and Georgia benefitted from Paul’s talent, making his creations a lasting testament and legacy to Paul’s strong work ethic and skill.
Paul was instantly recognizable with fire red hair and a personality to match. He truly lit up a room with his wide smile, booming laugh and lively spirit. Paul loved nature and traveling. Among his favorite memories was a family vacation and road trip to Alaska, where he spent time in the beautiful outdoors with those he loved. Always the artist, Paul developed an interest in clock-making in later years, pursuing it with his typical passion and pride. Paul’s eternally positive outlook benefitted him in life, especially as cancer took hold. He kept a smile to the end, grateful for the kindness and care shown to him by hospice, nurses and relatives.
Paul’s departure weighs heavily on his family, but we are certain Heaven is full of music, laughter and celebration with the arrival of his beloved spirit. Special thanks and recognition are extended to the staff at Union County Nursing Home, Blairsville Georgia for their exceptional care and support during Paul’s final days. Keeping with Paul’s wishes, a celebration of life is planned at the home of his parents, Randy and Lois Ratliff, Blairsville, Georgia.

Mr. Robert “Bob” Wayne Wilson age 83 of Wilson Way Blairsville passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on Monday May 27, 2019 following an extended illness. Mr. Wilson was born on June 16, 1935 in Houston, TX., the son of the late Robert E. Lee Wilson and the late Edith Dyer Wilson. He was a veteran of the US Marines in the Korean War. Bob enjoyed building and had built three homes in Blairsville. He was an electrician by trade. He was a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his son, Rodney Wade Wilson in 1987.
Surviving Mr. Wilson are his loving wife and best friend of sixty one years, Nancy Joorman Wilson of Blairsville, one son, Larry Wilson of Blairsville, one daughter, Marilee Seymour of Port St. Lucie, FL., one brother, Sam Wilson of TX., five grandchildren, Mark Seymour of Houston, TX., Tara Klems-Seymour of Ocala, FL., Kristina Wilson and Brandon Wilson of Stuart, FL., Maggie Arrington of Dawsonville, GA., many other relatives and friends also survive.

Mr. Maurice F. Farabee, age 97 of Blairsville, passed away Wednesday May 29, 2019 at Stonehenge Assisted Living.
Maurice was born in Wauchula, FL on 5 May 1922 to DeWitt and Edith (Collins) Farabee. Early-on the family moved to Ft. Myers, FL where Maurice had a very active youth. He participated in a number camping excursions to the western parts of the US. With all those outdoor activities be achieved the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America at the very early age of 13. His studies for a degree in Sociology at the University of Florida were interrupted in 1945 by World War II service in the Army where he qualified as a pilot. After discharge, he returned to the university to finish his degree and married Ann May Strong. At that time, he also applied for a job with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). He became a Special Agent of the FBI in early 1947 and continued in service until retirement in 1977. As an Agent he worked in numerous Field Offices of the Bureau in his earlier days, but since he was fluent in Spanish as a result of college courses he was assigned to the Miami Field Office in the early 1960’s where he remained until his retirement.
Many summer vacations were taken by packing the station wagon with camping gear, three kids and a dog and driving up to the Smokey Mountains to camp. Numerous summers camping were done at Lake Winfield Scott which helped introduce Maurice and Ann to the general Blairsville area. In 1974 they bought farm property in Blairsville and then in 1978, after Ann retired as a history teacher in the Miami-Dade School System, they moved up to the property. For many years they took great joy in tending to a herd of three dozen or so head of cattle and assorted farm animals. Maurice was probably happiest when he was out in the field working.
With Ann’s keen interest in history and their sense of community pride they became very involved in the Union County Historical Society and Courthouse restoration efforts. Maurice served 2 terms as president. They and others were instrumental in getting a new clock tower built and installed. Their efforts have been recognized both locally and statewide. In 1997 “A Resolution commending Maurice and Ann Farabee” was read on the floor of the Georgia House of Representatives (HR 536) that highlighted their service through the Historical Society. In 2002, they (posthumously for Ann) received the Humanities Medal from The Georgia Humanities Council. Anyone who spoke with Maurice and Ann about the Courthouse immediately recognized the pride they had in the Blairsville community. They were also members of First United Methodist Church of Union County.
Family left behind to cherish his memory include: son & daughter-in-law, Theodore “Ted” & Deborah Farabee of Mt. Dora, FL; son & daughter-in-law, John & Trudy Farabee of Blairsville; and sister, Irene Crow of Ft. Myers, FL. Also, sharing in his legacy are his grandchildren, Joshua Farabee, Amanda Farabee, Heather Rene Farabee, Vickie Cook, Jamie Cook, and Kevin Cook and 5 great grandchildren. Maurice was preceded in death by his wife, Ann in 2001 and his son, Joe in 2013.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 4, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville with Rev. Mike Cloyd officiating. Special music will be presented by John and Olean Dyer. Interment will follow in Union Memory Gardens Cemetery with military honors presented by the North Georgia Honor Guard. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 9 a.m. until the service begins.

Mrs. Dee Rennie, age 65, of Blairsville, GA, passed away on Monday, February 18th, 2019 at her home. She was born on February 9, 1954 in Albany, GA, to the late William & Patricia Brown Johnson. A member of the United Methodist Faith, Mrs. Rennie was a devoted care giver and case manager with Homestead Hospice. She was an avid reader and would read any books she could get. On December 9, 1972 in North Miami Beach Florida she married the love of her life, Robert Edward Rennie and had two sons. She will be remembered by all who knew her, but especially missed by her loving husband, Robert Edward Rennie and sons, Dr. Robert William Rennie and Christopher Brett Rennie.
There are no services planned at this time. Mrs. Rennie will be placed in rest at Union Memory Gardens in the Columbarium.

Mrs. Florence Hazel Lyke age 95 of Arrowood Pointe Blairsville passed away peacefully on Wednesday February 27, 2019 in the Union County Nursing Home following an extended illness. Mrs. Lyke was born on October 20, 1923 in Jersey City, NJ., the daughter of the late Bertram Burstell and the late Florence Filkens Burstell. Florence volunteered most of her life giving a lot of her time to Little Leagues and the Girl Scouts and many others. She was a loving and caring mother grandmother and great grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband, William C. Lyke in 2003 and also a brother, Bertram Burstell. Mrs. Lyke was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church in Metuchen, NJ.
Surviving Mrs. Lyke are one daughter and son in law, Florence and Robert Campbell of Blairsville, one son and daughter in law, William and Maureen Lyke of Longwood, FL., three grandchildren, Scott and Dana Campbell, Timothy and Tasha Campbell, Wendi and Tom Burns, two great grandchildren, Rhett Campbell and Charlotte Campbell, many other relatives and friends also survive.
A Graveside entombment service will be held on Friday March 15, 2019 at 12:30 pm from the Woodbridge Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Woodbridge, NJ. with Rev. Anna Thomas officiating where she will rest next to her beloved husband, William. Flowers are accepted or if you wish, the family requests that donations may be made to the American Cancer Society in Mrs. Lyke’s memory. The family will meet with friends following the services at the mausoleum.

Mr. John Michael Burkhardt Sr. age 69 of Diana Drive Blairsville formerly of Staten Island, NY,. passed away on Wednesday February 20, 2019 at his home surrounded by his loving family following an extended illness. Mr. Burkhardt was born on Feb. 1, 1950 in Queens, NY., the son of the late John G. Burkhardt and the late Annie Kelly Burkhardt. He was a veteran of the US Marines of the Vietnam War. He loved working with special needs children and working with animals. John loved being outdoors. He was a former member of the Elks club. He was a loving husband and father. John was preceded in death by his parents and also a brother, Martin Burkhardt. John was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving Mr. Burkhardt are his loving wife and best friend of forty years, Linda Peterson Burkhardt of Blairsville, one son and daughter in law, John and Diane Burkhardt of Fredricksburg, VA., his two grand puppies, Bella and Ruby, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Mrs. Ella May Schlott Lapp age 88 of Old Gum Log Spur Blairsville passed away peacefully on Friday February 8, 2019 in the Union General Hospital following a brief illness. Mrs. Lapp was born on July 16, 1930 in Groveton, NH., the daughter of the late Stillman Wilson Shannon and the late Lula Curtis Shannon. Ella was a very avid Bingo player. She had worked at Boscov Department Store and also Richey Rackett for many, many years. She was a very loving and caring mother, sister and aunt. She was preceded in death by her first husband, John Schlott and her last husband, Arthur Lapp, two sisters, Leola Zerbe and Thora Swoards and a brother, Stillman Shannon Jr. Ella was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving Mrs. Lapp are one daughter, Joell King of Blairsville, ex son in law, Dennis King of Blairsville, one sister, Dorothy Quinter of Reading, PA., several cousins, nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends also survive.
No services are planned at this time. In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that donations may be made to help defray expenses or to the American Heart Association in Mrs. Lapp’s memory. Interment will follow in the Forest Hills Cemetery in Reading, PA at a later date.

Cochran Funeral Home and Crematory of Blairsville announces the death and memorial services for Angela Gail Ledford, age 50, of Hiawassee, who passed away on Friday, February 1st, 2019.
Angela was born in Kokomo, Indiana, and was the daughter of Abigail Johnston Ledford and the late Bruce Ledford. Angela has lived in Towns County, Georgia for the past 20 years, and was a member of Old Union Baptist Church. She was dearly loved by her family and will be remembered for her bubbly personality. Besides her father Bruce, other relatives have preceded her in death: paternal grandparents, Guy and Rendie Ledford; maternal grandparents, Robert and Cora Johnston; cousin, Bretney Turner; Uncles, Bruce and Bronze Ledford; and Aunts, Regina Walker and Susan Coleman.
Angela is survived by her family members: mother, Abigail Johnston Ledford, of Hiawassee; daughter and son-in-law, Alexis Ledford and Matthew Swanson, of Hiawassee; granddaughter, Aiden Swanson, of Hiawassee; brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Ashleigh Ledford, of Kokomo, Indiana; Aunts: Mary Ann Owen, Carolyn Fulton, Roberta Bradley, Brenda (Myron) Turner; Belinda Post, Bivian (Harry) Hughes; two nephews: Caleb Ledford and Joshua Ledford, both of Kokomo.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, February 16th, 2019, at 2:00 p.m., to be held at Old Union Baptist Church with Rev. Ricky Rogers officiating. The family will meet with friends for one hour before the service starts at the church.

Mr. Marion Eugene “Gene” Lawrence of 14 Chestatee Drive of Blairsville died Saturday, January 26, 2019 at the age of 86 at home, surrounded by his family. Gene was born September 30, 1932 in Phenix City, Alabama. He is a graduate of Jordan High School in Columbus Georgia and later attended Georgia College in Cochran with a degree in Nursing.
Gene served in the United States Air Force for twenty years. He completed tours of duty in Morroco and in Vietnam. After his retirement, he completed his nursing training and worked for over twenty-five years as a registered nurse.
Gene is survived by his loving wife Jeanette Seabolt Lawrence, five children (George Michael Lawrence, Deborah Claire Wallace, Pamela Diane Addison, Sharon Lynn Moon, and Margaret Elizabeth “Beth” Jeffreys), ten grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
For many years, Gene lived on his farm in Eastman, Georgia where he dabbled in many agricultural projects.
Gene was a kind, generous, and loving man who helped all those around him. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
He developed the ability to paint in oils and it became one of his favorite pastimes.
Funeral services will be held at Antioch Baptist Church on Monday, January 28th at 2:00 pm with Rev. George Cline officiating. Special music will be presented by Sara Davis and Patsy Phillips. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Mark and Zachary Jeffreys, Bill Moon, Nicholas Meeks, Jake Addison and Roy Rudd. Serving as honorary pallbearers will Jason Wallace, Paul Clarke, Doug Brassell, Tom Grant and Gary Loucks. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with the North GA Honor Guard conducting Military Honors. The viewing will be held at the church beginning at 1:00 pm on Monday. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Youth and Children’s Ministries or food ministry of Antioch Baptist Church.

Mary Doreen Fildes died Wednesday, Jan. 23, of complications of Alzheimer’s Disease and congestive heart failure at the Stonehenge assisted living facility in Blairsville. She was 90.
The daughter of Clay C. and Awilda Rush Hawkins, Mrs. Fildes was born in the Hites Run community of Breckinridge County, KY, on Nov. 28, 1928. She was preceded in death by an infant son, John Clay Fildes, and her husband, Command Sgt. Major (U.S. Army retired) Norman R. Fildes, whom she met in Lexington, KY, and married in 1948. As an Army wife, she lived in the Panama Canal Zone, Mississippi, and Alabama. In later years, she also lived in Tullahoma, TN; Annandale, VA; and Elizabethtown, KY.
Survivors include her children, Norman R. Fildes Jr. (wife Leigh) of Casselberry, FL; Vickie Fildes Plunkett (husband David) of Young Harris, GA; and Jackie Fildes Butler (husband Mitchell) of Hardinsburg, KY; three grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren; siblings, the Rev. Oliver Hawkins of Lawrenceburg, KY, Alice Hardcastle of Tullahoma, TN, and Jerry Hawkins of Amarillo, TX, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive visitors at the Trent-Dowell Funeral Home in Hardinsburg, KY, on Monday, Jan. 28, from 4 to 6 p.m. A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. on Monday at the Trent-Dowell chapel. Mrs. Fildes will be interred with her husband at the National Military Cemetery in Lebanon, KY, on Tuesday, Jan. 29. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations, if desired, may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, TN.

Little Brayden Thomas Long infant son of Colton Thomas Long and Stephine Michelle Boyd Long went to be with Jesus on Saturday January 19, 2019 in the Union General Hospital. Brayden is now in the arms of Jesus. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Stephen Boyd and Rickey Long.
Surviving Brayden are his parents, Colton and Stephanie Long of Suches, his new twin brother, Rickey Long of Suches, his grandmothers, Vernice Long of Blairsville, Joanne Boyd of Bartow, GA., many other cousins and relatives also survive.

Cochran Funeral Home and Crematory of Blairsville announces funeral services for Rev. Floid Bravot Schneider, age 97, who passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 17, 2019.
He was born on March 31, 1921, in Midland, Michigan, to Paul Robert and Melvina Bravot Schneider. He was predeceased by his parents; his two brothers, Paul Joseph and Norman Edward Schneider; his two wives; and his great-granddaughter, Sabrina Rose Durbin. Floid joined the U.S. Navy in 1938 and served as a chief petty officer and medical corpsman with the First Marine Division on Guadalcanal. Later, while stationed in Melborne, Florida, he met and married a Navy nurse named Wilmoth Velma Griffin. Together, they had four children, and they remained together for 52 years, until Wilmoth’s death in 1996. Floid’s second wife was Wilma Barefoot Lee, who died in 2012.
Floid was the postmaster of Dover, Florida when he answered the call to become a minister, left his job, and moved with his family to Wake Forest, NC to study at the Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. He served as pastor of Wilson’s Mills Baptist Church and Spring Branch Baptist Church in Dunn, NC before returning to Florida. There he worked at the Plant City post office while serving as an interim pastor for several churches, including Northside and Hopewell Baptist churches, and he was a minister to the Green Acres campground in Dover, FL.
Later, he pastored the First Baptist Church of Wabasso, FL and retired from there. Floid is survived by his son, Glenn Schneider (Nancy); daughters Carol Turnage (Tom), Doris Durbin (Ed), and Joan Schneider-Cooper (John); grandchildren Steven Schneider, Allison Dunn, Kimberly Turnage, Bryce Durbin, Diana Murdock, Susan Denhoff, John and Michael Cooper, and Megan Cooper Hitchings; and eleven great-grandchildren: Cameron, Chase, and Caris Schneider, Griffin and Mackenzie Dunn, Sam and Thomas Durbin, Kate and Josh Murdock, and Sawyer and Fiona Hitchings.
The family extends its gratitude to the staff at Stonehenge Assisted Living for their loving care of Floid during the past four and a half years, and to the Georgia Mountains Hospice Service for their support during the past five months.
Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, January 21st, at 2:00 p.m., to be held at Antioch Baptist Church, with Rev. George Cline officiating. Burial will be in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will meet with friends on Monday, between the hours of 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the church, before the services begin. North Georgia Honor Guard will present military honors.
