Mr. Mel Ray Jones age 71 of Nottely Circle Blairsville passed away peacefully  at his home on Wednesday June 13, 2018 following a brief illness. Mr. Jones was born on May 1, 1947 in Eastman, GA., the son of the late Austin F. Jones and the late Rosa Lee Burnam Jones. He was a veteran of the US Air Force of the Vietnam War. Mel loved doing genealogy, tinkering in the garage and fishing. He was most proud of being a certified Girl Scout Leader. He was a loving and devoted husband, brother and grandfather. He cherished and loved his family dearly. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Mindy Jones in 2007, two brothers, Junior and Ronnie Jones and a sister, Alice Thomson. Mr. Jones was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving Mr. Jones are his loving wife and best friend of fifty years, Susan Roberts Jones of Blairsville, his most cherished granddaughter, Lacy Dianne Jones of Blairsville, three brothers and two sisters in law, Jack and Frances Jones, Wayne and Pat Jones all of Dublin, GA., Danny Jones of Dublin, one sister, Debra Jones of Dublin, several nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Friday June 15, 2018 at 11:00 am from the Mountain View Chapel with the Rev. Jimmy Tanner and Floyd Petty officiating. Interment will follow at 2:00 pm from the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA. with full Military Honors presented by the US Air Force Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that donations may be made to the National Suicide Awareness Foundation in memory of Mel’s daughter, Mindy Jones. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Friday from 10-11:00 am.
