Jimmie (Jim) Francis Beacham, age 90, died in his sleep of natural causes at the Stonehenge Assisted Living facility in Blairsville, Georgia, on January 9, 2016. Jim was born on August 9, 1925, in Woodville, Georgia. He lived in Marietta, Georgia, from 1952 to 1994 when he moved to Blairsville. He was predeceased by his parents Chester Ward and Bess Beacham of Blairsville, Georgia; his sisters Suzie Swartz and Mary Ball; and his brother Bud Beacham. Jim served as a medic in the US Navy during World War II. Following his military service, he attended the University of Georgia and then Piedmont College in Demorest, Georgia, where he received his BA, and his MA from Peabody College in Nashville, Tennessee. He was Director of Stephens County Youth Services Council before a fulfilling 39-year career at Lockheed Martin Aeronautics in Marietta, GA. While at Lockheed, Jim worked on top-secret projects and played on both the basketball and golf leagues. At the time of his retirement, he had donated more blood through their donation program than any other employee. Jim also played basketball in high school and college. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and UGA football. Jim belonged to the First Presbyterian Church in Marietta, Georgia, for many years. He is survived by his former wife Becky Beacham of Marietta, Georgia; his daughter Beth Beacham Sullivan and son-in-law Bryce Sullivan of Nashville, Tennessee; son Jimmy (Jimbo) Francis Beacham, Jr., of Marietta, Georgia; his grandson Jeremy Smith, granddaughter-in-law Christina Smith and great-granddaughter Violet Smith of Athens, Georgia; his grandson Joshua Smith of Portland, Oregon; his brother Hal Beacham of Blairsville, Georgia; his sister Martha Burtz of Gainesville, Georgia. Visitation will be Tuesday night Jan. 12, 2016 at Mountain View Funeral Home from 6:00-8:00. The funeral will be at Mountain View Funeral Home on Wednesday Jan. 13, 2016 at 2:00 pm. Interment will follow in the Blairsville City Cemetery. Military Honors will be conducted by the North GA. Honor Guard.
