In a Called meeting Monday morning, February 15, the Union County Board of Education named Dr. Fred Rayfield of Bainbridge, Georgia as the single finalist for the position of Superintendent of the Union County Schools. The Board voted unanimously to name Dr. Rayfield as the single finalist for the position and announced its intention to name him as Superintendent after the 14-day period of public notice.

A native of Alabama, Dr. Rayfield earned his bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Education from Auburn University in 1988. He holds a master’s degree from the University of Georgia and a doctorate from Oklahoma State University. Dr. Rayfield has served as the Superintendent of the Decatur County Schools for the past six years.

In the coming weeks, details of Dr. Rayfield’s employment will be developed by the Board and formal action to employ him as Superintendent is expected in the coming weeks. The Rayfield family will establish residence in Union County in the immediate future, and specific details regarding his beginning employment date will be forthcoming.
