Luther Roy Prater was 74 of Cook Mountain Drive, Blairsville passed away on Wednesday April 6, 2016 at his home surrounded by his loving family and closest friends following an extended illness.

Mr. Prater was born on March 12, 1942 in Walhalla, SC., the son of the late Carl and Lois Prater. Mr. Prater was a business executive at Cox Communications and was an avid hunter, pool player, gospel singer and loved his puppies.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Zacheria Prater, his mother, father and his brother, Robert Prater. Mr. Prater was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving Mr. Prater are his loving wife and best friend of fifty four years, Barbara Jean Freeman Prater of Blairsville, one son and daughter in law, Mark and Linn Prater of St. Louis MO, two daughters and one son in law, Terri and Michael Hart of Sugar Hill, GA., Debbie Davis of Centennial, CO., one brother and sister in law, Jim and Grace Prater, one sister, Ellen Sentell all of Westminster, SC., three grandchildren, Brooke Nay, Ally Nay, and Michael Hart Jr., his beloved puppies, many other friends and relatives also survive.

A memorial service will be held on Monday April 11, 2016 at 11:00 am from the Coosa United Methodist Church with the Rev. Roy Watkins and Steve Midkiff officiating. In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that donations may be made to Pruitt Hospice of Blue Ridge or to the Union County Humane Society Mtn. Shelter in Mr. Prater’s memory.
