Mrs. Mary Lawanda Spiva age 88 of Spiva Way Blairsville passed away peacefully at her home on Friday May 27, 2016 following an extended illness.

Mrs. Spiva was born on Sept. 17, 1927 in Union County, the daughter of the late John Franklin Reece and the late Dora Malinda Phillips Reece. She was a native and lifelong resident of Union County. Lawanda was a manager for Tupperware and a seamstress at Orbit Industries for many years. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ulric Winston Spiva in 1999, a daughter Linda Carlyle, four brothers, Marion, Frazier (Paul), Joe and J.W. Reece. Lawanda was a member of Owltown Church of God.

Surviving Mrs. Spiva are four sons and daughters in law, Gene and Wendy Spiva, James and Rita Spiva, Jerry and Deborah Spiva all of Blairsville, Rick and Sharon Spiva of Menlow, GA., three daughters and sons in law, Ruth and Rex Patterson of Hayesville, Deborah and Johnny Glazner of Morganton, Peggy and Chuck Patrick of Brasstown, NC., thirty grandchildren, fifty four great grandchildren, many great-great grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday May 31, 2016 at 11:00 am from the Mountain View Chapel with the Rev. Michael Anderson and Rev. James Hughes officiating. Special music will be presented by Gail Smith. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Allen, Rob, Geoffery, Jon, Brian and Jeff Spiva, Amos Patterson, Derrick Cook and Abe Patrick. Interment will follow in the Shady Grove Methodist Church Cemetery where she will rest next to her beloved husband Ulric. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Monday evening from 6-9:00 pm.
