Mrs. Ruth Elizabeth Mauney age 78 of Harrell Mauney Rd. Blairsville passed away peacefully on Monday June 6, 2016, following an extended illness.
Mrs. Mauney was born on Nov. 28, 1937 in White County, GA., the daughter of the late Roy McCarter and the late Connie Grindle McCarter. She was a lifelong resident of Union County. Ruth was a member of the American Legion and the Eastern Star. Before her retirement she was employed with the Union County School System as Lunchroom Manager for over 30 years. She loved trout fishing, camping, shopping, quilting, working flowers in her yard and cooking for her church. Ruth was known for her cooking and baking and made many a jar of homemade veggie soup for a lot friends. In the summers she enjoyed canning from the fruits of her garden. She also loved going out to eat with her family and friends. Ruth loved animals and especially her dog Chi Chi.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harrell Mauney in 2002. Mrs. Mauney was a Charter member of Revival Baptist Church.
Surviving Mrs. Mauney are one daughter and son in law, Amy and Kaylon Grubbs of Blairsville, one son and daughter in law, James and Becky Mauney of Ontario, OR., one sister, Dot Floyd of Blairsville, four grandchildren, Aaron and Matt Mauney, Jake and Jared Grubbs, three great grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 10, 2016 at 11:00 am from the Mountain View Chapel with the Rev. Tommy Seay and Rev. Donald Davenport officiating. Special music will be presented by Moe Weaver, Paige Wade, Lano Ledford, Tom Crawford, O’na Huskey, Wayne Morgan, and Becky Mauney. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Aaron and Matt Mauney, Jake and Jared Grubbs, David Gowder, and Charles Shirley. Interment will follow in the Revival Baptist Church Cemetery where she will rest next to her beloved husband, Harrell. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 6-9:00 pm. Flowers are accepted or if you wish, the family requests that donations may be made to the Union County Humane Society Mtn. Shelter in Ruth’s memory.
