Mrs. Edith Rae Zimmerman Garrett, age 75 of Ingram Rd. Young Harris passed away peacefully on Wednesday June 15, 2016 surrounded by her loving family in the Chatuge Nursing Home following an extended illness.
Edith was born on June 24, 1940 in Clay County NC., the daughter of the late Paul Zimmerman and the late Maude Phillips Zimmerman. She was a lifelong resident of Towns and Clay Counties. Edith was a loving and caring mother, sister, grandmother and great grandmother. She never met a stranger and was a friend to many. She will always be remembered and missed by all who knew her. Edith loved her Lord.
She was preceded in death by her husband Willis Garrett, son, Jeffrey Ingram, daughter, Teresa Gibson, three sisters, Katherine Hawkins, Frankie Wells and Elizabeth Arrowood, three brothers, James, Bruce and Max Zimmerman. Edith was a member of Many Forks Baptist Church.
Surviving Mrs. Garrett are one son and daughter in law, Tim and Sherry Ingram of Young Harris, two daughters and one son in law, Shirley and Johnny Smith of Blairsville, Sheila Owens of Brasstown, NC., son in law, Donny Gibson of Blairsville, step children, Alvin and Liz Garrett of Blairsville, Larry and Bonnie Garrett of Blairsville, Rose Garrett and Alene Garrett of Blairsville, two sisters, Beatrice Zimmerman of Brasstown, Betty Jean Dietz of Hayesville, two brothers, Phillip Zimmerman of Young Harris, Hoyt Zimmerman of Charlotte, NC., six grandchildren, Shawn Owens, Mitchell Ingram, Brandon Smith, Nicole Ingram, Marshall Gibson, Shaye Cobb, three great grandchildren, Gunnar Ingram, Peyton Owens, Trinity Cobb, several step grandchildren and great grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday June 18, 2016 at 3:00 pm from the Mountain View Chapel with the Rev. Ronnie Abernathy officiating. Special music will be presented by By His Grace. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Shawn Owens, Mitchell Ingram, Brandon Smith, Marshall Gibson, Robert Cobb and Michael Ringenberg. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Charles Gibson, Gunnar Ingram and Peyton Owens. Interment will follow in the Many Forks Cemetery. Flowers are accepted or if you wish, donations may be to Many Forks Baptist Church Cemetery Fund in Edith’s memory. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6-9:00 pm. Mountain View Funeral Home of Blairsville is in charge of the arrangements.
