Ruth Twedt: Obituary

Obituaries

Ruth Twedt age 74 passed away July 4, 2016 at Emory Midtown Hospital, Atlanta, GA following a brief struggle with cancer. She was born February 11, 1942 in Shawano, WI, daughter of the late Rev. Kurt and Mary (Svendsen) Lederer.

Ruth was a graduate of Bethany Lutheran Junior College and the University of Wisconsin La Crosse. Following graduation she was employed as a Medical Technologist in Waterloo, IA. She and her husband Dean accepted positions with Coulter Diagnostics where Ruth worked in research and development. Upon retirement they moved to Blairsville. Being the daughter of a preacher, she moved around many times in her life. However, it was in Blairsville that she found her real home. The area was beautiful, the community welcoming and the people held a special place in her heart. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Union County. Her involvement in the church with Oasis, Choir, Hand Bell Choir, Robinettes, Fall Festival and many other church activities along with the Union County Historical Society kept her active and fulfilled her desire to serve and give back to others.

Ruth is survived by a brother and sister-in-law: Kenneth (Lynn) Lederer, Appleton, WI; three nieces: Jennifer Mulloy of Eden Prairie, MN; Dr. Susan Lederer and Katie Lederer both of Houston, TX; a nephew: Dr. Matthew (Lora) Lederer and their children Eva and Clara of Appleton, WI; a grandniece: Emma Frederick of Appleton, cousins and special friends Flip and Brenda Varney. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Dean and sister-in-law: Kathryn Lederer.

The family would like to express a special thank you to Flip Varney for the wonderful love and care he gave to Ruth during her final days and to Rev. Mark Burgess and Stan Wallace for their prayers and concern. Ruth’s request to not publicize her illness was honored. However, the family greatly appreciates the many prayers we know came her way.

A memorial service will be held 11 am Wednesday July 13, 2016 at First United Methodist Church, Blairsville with the Rev. Mark Burgess and Stan Wallace officiating. Friends may call directly at the church on Wednesday from 9:30 am until the time of service. A memorial fund in Ruth’s name is being established for the FUMC of Union County Music Ministry.
