Mr. Harry “Tommy” Thomson of Blairsville, GA passed away peacefully on Friday September 2, 2016 at Newnan Health and Rehab following an extended illness. Mr. Thomson was born September 23, 1928 in Eldora GA, the son of the late William Thomson and the late Sally Sheffield Thomson. Tommy was a veteran of the United States Army of the Korean War. Tommy worked for Lockheed-Martin as a tool designer for 41 years before retiring. Tommy went to college at night where he earned his Divinity Certificate and was a deacon at Acworth First Baptist Church for four years, and a door greeter for four years. Tommy taught Bible courses from his home in Acworth and became a Pastor of a church in Acworth. After relocating to Blairsville, Tommy taught adult class Bible study every Sunday night at Antioch Baptist Church. Tommy served as the interim pastor for New Hope Baptist Church when the Church first got started, where he taught Bible Classes every night. Tommy was a faithful member of the House of Prayer Church in Blairsville, and was a member of the choir for two years. Preceding Mr. Thomson in death is his first wife Grace Ellen Thomson and also a daughter, Felicia Wilburn.

 

Surviving Mr. Thomson are his loving wife and best friend of 23 years, Louise “Drucilla” Thomson of Newnan, GA, Son and daughter-in-law John Terry and Lillian Thomson of Emerson, GA, Daughter and son-in-law Sharon and Joe Kitchens of Acworth, GA, Son and daughter-in-law L. Andrew and Lisa Thomson of Cartersville, GA, Daughter and son-in-law Nancy and Jeff Rasey of Cartersville, GA, fifteen grandchildren, thirty great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends also survive.

 

Funeral services will be held in the Chapel of the Mountain View Funeral Home on Monday September 5, 2016 at 2:00pm, with the Rev. Jerry Helton and Rev. Bill Honaker officiating. Military Honors will be conducted by the North Georgia Honor Guard. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers, Cory Kitchens, Caleb Kitchens, Joshua Kitchens, Drake Kitchens, Tanner Kitchens, and Jeff Rasey. Internment will follow at the Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Mountain View Funeral Home on Monday September 5, 2016 from 12:00-2:00pm.
