Ida Genell Dyer Nichols Burns: Obituary

Obituaries

Ida Genell Dyer Nichols Burns entered into eternal rest at her home on Saturday, October 1, 2016, in Young Harris GA at the age of 85. Genell is survived by her sons Keith Nichols of Blairsville, GA and Terry and Brenda Weaver of Young Harris, GA. Her grandchildren Curtis Payne, Derrick Weaver, Vanessa Persall, and Keisha Robertson, and twelve great grandchildren. Also surviving Genell is her sister Wilma Shuler of Young Harris, GA, and brother Harold Dyer of Blairsville, GA, many nieces and nephews, and a host of other family and friends also survive.

Genell was born December 26, 1930 in the Choestoe Community of Blairsville to the late “Little” Ed Dyer and Bertha Hood Dyer. In addition to her parents, Genell was preceded in death by husbands R.V. Nichols and C.D. Burns, grand daughter Melissa Pouncy, granddaughter Tessa Weaver, grandson Jonathan Lloyd, sisters Anna Mae Burnette, Lois Allen, Sara Ruth Payne, and brother James Perry Dyer.

Giving her heart and life to God at the age of 10, Genell joined the Choestoe Baptist Church and was an active and dedicated member as long as was possible. Always putting her family and friends first, she was a wonderful homemaker, who enjoyed crossword puzzles and embroidery. In the past, Genell loved volunteering as a “Pink Lady” with the Union County Women’s Auxiliary. A quote from Genell in her last days, “If you had a hundred million dollars and no friends, you wouldn’t have anything!” Another quote Genell loved was from a plaque hanging in her home: “I shall pass this way but once. Therefore, any good that I can do or any kindness that I can show, let me do it now for I shall not pass this way again.” Genell loved her family and friends dearly and was loved in return, and she will be sorely missed by them all.
