Mr. John B. Ledford age 79 of Blairsville passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving on Thursday January 26, 2017 following an extended illness. Mr. Ledford was born on April 25, 1937 in Murphy, NC., the son of the late Fred Ledford and the late Cecil Chastain Ledford. He was a lifelong resident of Union County and had retired from the D.O.T. in 1999 after many years of service. John loved playing music with his friends, hunting, fishing, gardening, being outdoors. He got his most joy in spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his son, Danny Ledford in 1980, a brother, Fred Ledford and three sisters, Marie Hogsed, Eula Buchanan and Kate Twiggs. Mr. Ledford was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving Mr. Ledford are his loving and best friend of fifty two years, Melva Lynn Owenby Ledford of Blairsville, adopted son and wife, Tommy and Tracy Holbrooks of Blairsville, brothers in law, Jimmy Owenby of Hiawassee, Johnny Owenby, Herman Hogsed and Randall Twiggs all of Blairsville, sisters in law, Shirley Brown and Brenda Wallace of Blairsville, three grandchildren, Kayla (Elton) Levinson, Joshua (Madalyn) Holbrooks, Hannah Holbrooks, three great grandchildren, Morgan, Tyler and Emma, several nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday Jan. 29, 2017 at 2:00 pm from the Mountain View Chapel with the Rev. Tommy Seay and Rev. Danny White officiating. Special music will be presented by the Pine Top Singers. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Morris, Jack, Mike and Jerry Mashburn, Josh Holbrooks, Lonnie McCray and Mike King. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be all of John’s musician friends. Interment will follow in the Harmony Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Saturday evening 6-9:00 pm. Mountain View Funeral Home of Blairsville is in charge of the arrangements.
