Mr. Durwood Norris Queen age 80 of  Acworth formerly of Blairsville passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at his home on Saturday Feb. 4, 2017 following an extended illness. Mr. Queen was born on May 15, 1936 in Blairsville, GA., the son of the late Tom B. Queen and the late Nora Reece Queen. Durwood retired from General Motors after thirty one years of service. He enjoyed gardening and loved growing things. He was a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather. He was the wind beneath his wife Katherine’s wings. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Bobby Joe and Carl Queen. Mr. Queen was a member of Shady Grove Methodist Church.

Surviving Mr. Queen are his loving wife and best friend of sixty years, Katherine Teague Queen of Acworth, GA., one son, Anthony Queen of Acworth, one sister, Frances Kirkland of Blairsville, one grandson, Alexander Lawson Norris Queen of Gainesville, two sisters in law, Mary Deerwester of Philadelphia, Carolyn Williamson of Jacksonville, FL., nephew, Trip Cavender of Murphy, NC., many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Monday Feb.6, 2017 at 11:00 am from the Mountain View Chapel with the Rev. Winfred Pitts officiating. Special music will be presented by Winfred and Patsy Pitts. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Douglas Queen,Kevin Hutson and Jimmy Lance. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be, Bobby Jackson,J.E. Hutson Bill Nicholson and Anthony Queen. Interment will follow in the Shady Grove Methodist Cemetery. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Sunday evening from 5-8:00 pm.
