Mrs. Marie C. Odom Hughes age 83 of Blairsville passed away peacefully on Saturday March 25, 2017 in the Copper Basin Medical Center following an extended illness.

Mrs. Hughes was born on Nov. 5, 1933 in Union County, the daughter of the late Thurman Odom and the late Noreen Brown Odom. She was a native and lifelong resident of Union County. Marie loved gardening, growing flowers , violets and tomatoes. She loved being outdoors. She was a loving mother and grandmother and was a friend to many. Mrs. Hughes was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving Mrs. Hughes are her loving husband, Loyce Hughes of Blairsville, two daughters and one son in law, Sandra Mann of Cleveland, TN., Melissia and Russell Johnson of Epworth, GA., one son and daughter in law, Kenny and Brenda Hughes of Blairsville, seven grandchildren, Kirk and Kasey Mann, Holly Ellington, Joshua Hughes, Blake Taylor and Kelley Johnson, seven great grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday April 1, 2017 at 1:00 pm from the New Union Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Homer Helton officiating. Special music will be presented by the Hughes Family. In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that donations may be made to help defray expenses in memory of Mrs. Hughes. The family will meet with friends following the services. Mountain View Funeral Home of Blairsville is in charge of the arrangements.
