Mr. Jiles Thomas “Tom” Meeks age 70 of Morganton passed away peacefully on Wednesday March 29, 2017 at his home following a brief illness.
Tom was born on Sept. 29, 1946 in Columbia, SC., the son of the late Jiles Leslie Meeks and the late Lillian Bolton Meeks. He was a veteran of the US Army. Tom and his wife Joann owned and operated Crossroads Country Store in Morganton for many years and had been employed with the City of Atlanta Police Department and served as a Jailor with the Fannin County Sheriff’s Department. He also served as an Umpire with the Fannin County Recreation Department. Tom was known as a caretaker of cats. He loved to laugh and always put a smile on people’s faces. He was a member of the Forest Park Masonic Lodge #399 F&AM. He was preceded in death by his parents and also his mother in law, Ruby Carney. Tom was a member of the First Baptist Church in Forest Park.
Surviving Tom are his loving wife Joann Panter Meeks of Morganton, one brother and sister in law , Phillip and Pam Meeks of Ft. Myers, FL., two sisters in law, three brothers in law and their spouses, nephew, Matt Meeks, niece, Rebecca Meeks, numerous cousins, many other relatives and friends also survive.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday April 1, 2017 at 1:00 pm from the Mountain View Chapel with Dr. Phillip Meeks officiating. In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that donations may be made to your favorite pet charity in Tom’s memory. The family will meet with friends following the service.
