Mrs. Shirley Ann Wilson, age 70, of Blue Ridge, Georgia, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, April 9, 2017, in the North East GA Medical Center following an extended illness.
Mrs. Wilson was born on February 6, 1947 in Atlanta, GA., the daughter of the late Charles Gunter, Jr. and Rachel Dinsmore Gunter. Shirley always had a ministry to children, sharing the love of Christ with them. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, and gardening and loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was a people person who never met a stranger. Shirley was a faithful member of Faith Baptist Church. Surviving Mrs. Wilson are her loving husband, James C. Wilson of Blue Ridge; son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Lisa Wilson of Copperhill; two daughters and sons-in-law, Susie and Mike Helton of Ft. Oglethorpe, GA and Beth and Dennis Hubbard of Dawsonville, GA; mother, Rachel Gunter of Canton, GA; four brothers, Jim Gunter of Cumming, Barry, Stanley and Joe Gunter all of Canton, two sisters, Linda Barrett of Cumming, and Mary Turner of Jasper. Her twelve grandchildren were the light of her life: Lauren Locke, Stephen, Anna, and Jonathan King, Elizabeth Hynes, Kerri Cole, Karly and Kelly Helton, Kimberly and Jeremy Wilson, Thomas and John Hubbard. Her three great-grandchildren, Karson and Kameron Cole and Ellie Sue Locke brought her much joy! Many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday April 12, 2017 at 12:00 pm at Faith Baptist Church, Blairsville, GA, with the Rev. Emory Alexander and Rev. Doug Parham officiating. Special music will be presented by Shirley’s grandchildren. She will lay in state at the church from 11 am-12 pm on Wednesday. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers: Jonathan King, Stephen King, Thomas Hubbard, John Hubbard, James C. Wilson, James G. Wilson and James J. Wilson. Interment will follow in the Toccoa Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 5-9:00 pm.
