Mr. Joseph Raymond Murphy, age 56, of Blairsville, GA passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, May 28, 2017, following an extended illness. Mr. Murphy was born on July 30, 1960 in Augusta, GA, the son of the late Purle Murphy and Katherine Patterson Murphy. Joseph was an avid outdoors man throughout his life. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and competing in archery competitions. Joseph was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving Mr. Murphy are his loving wife, Nancy Murphy, daughter Nikya Murphy of Blairsville, GA, daughter Cristin Murphy of Lakeland FL,son Colton Murphy of Marietta, GA, stepdaughter Candice and Jason Garrett of Hiawassee, GA, grandson Luke Renna, grandson Kyler Garrett, grandson Colton Garrett, many other friends and relatives also survive.

A funeral service for Mr. Murphy will be held on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at 5:00pm in the Mountain View Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Helton and Scotty Jarrard officiating. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers, Kyler Garrett, Tony Payne, Tim Murphy, Arnold Murphy, Al Bouchard, and Gary Payne. Interment will follow at the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday May 29, 2017 between the hours of 6:00pm and 9:00pm at the funeral home. Flowers are accepted, or in lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Shepard Spinal Center in Mr. Murphy’s memory.
