Blairsville, GA – The (Blairsville) Union County Farmers Market opened at 7 a.m. on Saturday, June 3, 2017 for the 2017 season. The weather cooperated beautifully. It would be an understatement to say that there was an abundance of spring fruits and vegetables on hand, and, that there was a near record crowd anxious to get their hands on some of those fruits and vegetables. Of course, there were lots of crafts interspersed between the truckloads of spring produce, most of which was handmade; cutlery with deer horn handles, well-made bee traps and birdhouses, photography and wall art and beautiful hand-crafted pottery, just to name a few. The concession stand was open for hungry patrons as well. Kristy Peney, manager of the Farmers Market, was on hand for the grand opening as was Union County Sole Commissioner Lamar Paris. Peney said the cannery, which is located at the Farmer’s Market, would open on Thursday, July 6, 2017 once the growing season was off to a good start; and she encourages both experienced and inexperienced canners alike to attend a canning class on June 15, 2017 at the cannery. The Farmer’s Market will be open on Saturdays and Tuesdays from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
